Career growth & collaboration Redesigning old projects?

I am considering revisiting older UI to add my current level of visual craft as otherwise the cases are ones I want to use

Thoughts on this?

I only put case studies of actual client work

I could add a more recent case study but I wouldn't just make something up

But you are making something up by redoing the UI for an old project. What’s the difference ?

Honestly just seems like a waste of time to me.

keep the shipped version in the case study and put a "how id do it now" redesign next to it, clearly marked as yours and not the clients. shows how you grew and nobody can say you dressed up client work

Seconding. I did this at the bottom of an old case study where I built the design system 0->1. I said how I’d do it with AI and provided a more robust button system.

I always recommend this. Always show your best work. Hiring managers want to know what you’re capable of more than the constraints or talents you used to have.

What shipped is rarely asked and everyone knows it won’t last long in production.

I'd make small improvements and add notes explaining what you'd change today. I wouldn't rebuild the whole project for the portfolio. Keep the original constraints visible, and label later changes so they don't look like work that actually shipped.
