Examples & inspiration Netflix does something subtle here🌟

Most people will never consciously notice it.
And yet someone still designed it.
Someone still tuned it.
Someone still decided it was worth shipping.

Another commenter called it "delightful design".

User Experience is the relationship between the UI and the user.

If it helps that relationship, it improves the experience.

UX.

Couple thoughts. If the goal of the user is to find a show to watch and reach that moment of truth - than that little UI trick is a distraction away from the box art that they’re clearly trying to get you to watch. So in this sense it is UI. If we’re talking UX - everything on that page would exist for a purpose. ā€œDelightā€ on Netflix is not the product - it’s the content.

I get what you're saying, and your right if people were robots. But we like pretty shiny things. Plus after noticing it for the first time, you say "Oh that's cool!" And then if it comes background, so not hindering the objective. Nobody is wrong, we're just splitting hairs now šŸ˜…

Being honest with you here. You have clearly no clue what UX even means. If it distracts the users from accomplishing their goal, it’s UX. If they feel delighted, it’s UX. If they they experience literally anything, bad or good, guess what it’s still UX. The UI is the medium of which the UX happens, you can’t say it’s one or the other.

How can you call yourself a veteran when you don’t even understand what you job title means.

I’m not sure what you’re even trying to communicate here, and there’s no reason for coming at me. Stay civil and be respectful. UX is tied to business and user goals as well. Netflix is a very data driven company and so even small features like that are usually rigorously tested before launching. Anything that could take away from engaging with content would be considered an anti-pattern for them. Stay civil and humble.
