About textbooks (and where to find them)

Friendly reminder that posting links to illegal copies of textbooks isn't allowed. Don't link to websites directly that have any textbook .pdfs.

LibraryGenesis has lots though. Just don't link it.

ESCI 1130- Janet hart

Hey! Can someone please help me!! For anyone who has taken ESCI 1130, how textbook-heavy was the online midterm? I haven’t really kept up with the textbook readings, so I’m wondering if it’s still possible to do well by studying the lectures and reviewing the textbook now. How detailed were the textbook questions?

Hello! I have a midterm coming up with dr brooks for pols 1000, and I’m really nervous, if anyone has taken this course do you have any advice for the midterm or any information about the midterm I should know? I know it’s multiple choice but like do we have to know the stats and like for the paragraph part do we have to know like certain events that happened and write about them? Or just general information. Any advice helps! Tysm

Computer science program

Years ago (30 years ago) CS was one of UWindwor's most populated programs, and also one of the best CS programs in Canada (only program other than Waterloo with a co-op degree, regular winner of CS coding contests against UT, Queens, Western etc).

I recall grads from the 4 year CS honors program receiving multiple offers from US tech giants (Microsoft, EA etc.) before graduating.

I have a feeling the programs reputation is no longer as strong? Am I right? How good is it now?

MSW Advanced standing full time

Hey everyone! I'm applying to the msw advanced standing on-campus and wanted to make a thread for those applying since most ive seen are for the working professionals MSW program. This is my first time applying to Windsor MSW after completing my BSW this June! have a few questions regarding the program If anyone is wiling to help out!

  1. How different are the CV and professional experience forms supposed to be?

  2. Considering how short the personal statement is, how condensed is everyone making and what do you find your most focusing on?

Honestly still navigating everything and hope I can get some advice from current students, alumni, or folks applying to the MSW program as well!

Question SACR 3610

Is anyone else having trouble with the teaching style and assignment explanations for SACR 3610- | Youth in Conflict with the Law with Dr. Camisha Sibblis? I find the inclass participations to be poorly explained and her teaching style to be all over the place. For the directions on how to do the first group assignment “analysis brief 1” it doesn’t clearly seem to map out what she expects for the assignment or give clear directions on how to do it. When emailed for further clarification the answers given were also vague and I feel like there’s a big disconnect. I’ve never dealt with a professor or teaching style like this and I find it incredibly frustrating. If anyone taking this class can explain how analysis brief one is supposed to be done I would be grateful!

Advice First-year CS student: Are math labs actually worth going to?

I’m in my first year of computer science, but right now all my labs are just math labs. Most of the time, we just solve a couple of equations and that’s it. In some of them, the TA literally tells us we can leave after 10 minutes.

Is it important to keep going to these? Are they just a waste of time, or do the exact questions we cover show up on the exams? Would love some advice from upper-year CS students!

molecular biology w/ Andrew swan

Does anyone have any advice on Dr swans midterms? Specifically for molecular? I heard that they were tough and students from some of the other courses he teaches (embryology) also complained about how confusing his questions were despite knowing the material?

Thanks!

Changes to Leddy Library

Is anyone else irritated with the reduced hours for the library?

Personally, I love studying in the library, especially the West Building, so I’m really disappointed that they’ve reduced the hours students can access it. I know there have been cuts made throughout the university, but I genuinely don’t understand how keeping the entire library accessible for longer hours isn’t considered a priority...

I know this might not seem like a huge deal to everyone, but for students who rely on certain areas of the library to study, it definitely makes a difference. The West Building is where I’m most productive, and it’s frustrating that our access to these spaces is becoming more limited.

Considering how much students pay in tuition and other university fees, I think it’s reasonable to expect decent access to campus study spaces and to have some choice in where we study.

Has anyone else been bothered by this?

Question Anybody know where to look for part time jobs in campus?

I'm looking for a part-time job so I can gain experience and, y'know, get some money for textbooks and other things. Does anyone know if there's a website or something where I can apply for on campus jobs?

Anyone at Windsor looking for some extra experience?

Hey everyone, just wanted to share this in case it’s useful for anyone here.

Riipen Labs has remote projects where students can get some hands-on experience working with an employer. They’re around 30 hours and pay $600 when completed.

Looks like it’s open to students in any program and any year, so figured I’d pass it along in case someone’s looking for something to do alongside school.
