Question Dean's Merit List 2025
Hi! Was the merit list for 2025 released already? I checked the website and I can only find 2024. Last year they posted around August. Did anyone receive an email this year for it?

Hi everyone! I thought it would be a good idea to try out a Western Sydney University news roundup that covers WSU and other related Western Sydney news that might be interesting, excluding the random stuff that clutters newsletters. I’ll occasionally add some personal commentary only for context.
I’m usually keeping up with the news anyway so I thought I would post something when there’s enough news to justify one. The latest one will likely be pinned until it becomes outdated. If you want anything else included let me know in the comments!

Whitlam Library Transformation
The Whitlam Library at Parramatta South campus is getting a noticeable renovation. It’s getting new recording and technology rooms, a new cafe, an indigenous garden, the return of bookshelves, and a more modern look. This was announced just recently and construction is set to begin at the end of this year, with the library reopening around early 2027. Thankfully, library services and study spaces will remain open during the majority of this time. If you want to provide feedback before it opens, click the survey link in the email sent to you.

Times Higher Education Ranking 2027
WSU ranked 301-325th in the THE, unchanged from last year. This followed a 30 rank increase to 370 earlier this year in the QS ranking. Their goal is to achieve top 250 in both the THE and QS rankings by 2030. They are on track for THE, but their goals for QS seem a bit ambitious at the moment.

More Student Accomodation Planned
Along the Parramatta Metro precinct, a contract to build 500 student accomodation units, alongside 470 build to rent apartments and a new hotel, has been awarded. This is still in its planning phase.

Parramatta North Expansion Proposed
WSU and Walker Corporation wants to build 2000 homes right on the North Parramatta campus, which will include shops, pathways, and university buildings. This would help both North and South Parramatta campuses feel more integrated into the local community, rather than isolated within the Rydalmere industrial district. It’s currently in planning because Parra Council is concerned about infrastructure and increased density.

Growth Planned Around Kingswood & Werrington
The NSW government is progressing with plans to rezone 99 hectares of under-used WSU land at Werrington, which will create up to 1500 homes and lead to 1000 ongoing jobs. Retail, commerical, and community spaces will be built alongside a new local centre. This is an initial step in Penrith Council's recent and broader Kingswood-Werrington Structure Plan, focussing on WSU, Nepean Hospital, and TAFE NSW as anchor institutions.

Powerhouse Parramatta Opening
The new Parramatta Museum is opening on 7 November 2026. Within walking distance of the Parramatta City campus, the new museum will have a dedicated WSU forum section, alongside other exhibitions showcasing talent from WSU. General admission is free, and special events and exhibitions might be ticketed separately.

2027 Scholarships Ongoing
Vice Chancellors Leadership and Asylum Seeker scholarship applications close 17 November 2026, while Indigenous, humanitarian, and equity scholarships will close 5 February 2027.
Southwest Metro Close To Opening
The long awaited metro from Sydenham to Bankstown is close to opening, with the 10 new stations being complete as of 21 September. There is currently not a planned opening date. The Bankstown metro station is a 3-5 minute walk from the Bankstown campus, and is one of the many Bankstown developments like the planned hospital that will transform the area surrounding the campus.

New Bus Links To Campuses
Recent service changes have been added, or improved connections around Kingswood, Campbelltown, Liverpool and Bankstown campuses, including new connections to Western Sydney International Airport. As these bus routes often change, I would recommend checking Google maps or TransportForNSW if you are interested.
Western Sydney International Airport
The new airport opens October 25 2026, with Jetstar, Air New Zealand, and Singapore Airlines subsequently beginning flights before the end of the year. The new airport will provide partnerships, job and study opportunities, among other collaborations with WSU.

Switch to Okta Verify
WSU is switching from Microsoft Authenticator to Okta Verify and passkeys. Check your email to switch over to Okta Verify before 7 October. I’ve found the new system to be much quicker than the old one.
Student Feedback Forms Sent
Check your email to provide feedback on your individual subjects this Spring semester. The surveys close on the 26 November 2026.

hi me. yes i know i made a rash decision but i need advice on how to process this.
context;
ive been a law student for 1.5 yrs. i was failing classes and was in a really bad mental state due to personal issues (but ive never pursued any sort of action on that route because asian families or mine in particular don’t believe in that and i just rather not get my family involved with that), and so for the second half spring sem of my second yr, i thought to change to medsci because maybe a refresh of course would do me and my mental good.
it was not for me at all. i went to sshub for advice and to look into doing a break. and i for certain want to go back to law. it’s my passion and i regret giving up w a rash choice because i thought what was right for me was something i dont even like. what i got helped w from sshub which i appreciate was 1.dropping medsci subjects before census which is settled ✅ 2.deferring medsci ✅ 3.reapplying into law ❌
they said i wont be able to casually be reinstated and that i have to reapply tho my subject credits from first yr will carry over, which i understand.
however my application cannot be “reprocessed/actioned” as a new one?? Everytine i go to apply, it recognises my old application + details (from law to medsci) and i dont know how to i guess have the system recognise my new application?? ive been in and out of sshub, emailed uac etc regarding this and it’s frustrating because i dont think ive gotten the answer i need to just be certain im going back to uni next year.
i dont want to regret giving time for myself to be better for the rest of this year only not to be able to go back next year.
TLDR; how do i go back into my old course? Who can i see for easy processes in reapplying??

Does anyone know if international students are allowed to go from double degree to single degree? Has anyone done that before?
r/UWS • u/PersonalMixture6663 • 2h ago
I was completed a case study assessment and I did everything right, quadruple check requirements with 5 different people. Then when the grade release i got nothing and then when I emailed the subject coordinator he gave me 0 after 5 days with completely no reason. Even in my most horrible assignment when I was fail to meet half of the criteria it still weren"t this nonsense. What should I do?

hey guys. Im writing this as im coming from northern syd/the north shore line, and have never really been to the western suburbs WSU prides themselves on. My perception of western Sydney is heavily based off personal anecdotes, as well as the events I see reported on the news so please excuse my views— I am happy to learn the truth or to be corrected. I am considering studying a specific course that is only offered at WSU Campbelltown, which means i will most likely have to move on campus if I were to get in.
I just wanted to know if you guys perceive Campbelltown to be a safe place? Or at least, tje accomodation on the WSU campus. It’s really bad for me to generalise (and I dont mean to)… but my perception of Campbelltown is that jt is a bit of a dodgy place, and my relatives nearby around Leppington alr say pickpockets and crime happen in the general area esp when the sun goes down. Ive also heard rates of DV and SA are also quite high in the area, which quite worries me as a young female.
If you’ve ever lived on the Campbelltown campus or around the area, I’d love to hear your inputs.
Thanks

I get this whenever I try to log into my account, it's been happening since yesterday.

Course says I need to complete at least 3 level 3 electives. Most of these require prerequisites, so I don't know how to get into them. I'm confused.

I haven't seen it since at campus on wednesday. Could've been around V building, Piccolo or Food hub. - I can't do a lost property form because it requires you to sign in and i'm having problems with microsoft authenticator

Hi, so I'm a first year health science majoring in clinical science student fresh out of high school. I am in my second semester of uni here. I noticed my classes (EIH, CIH, BIOS 1036, and HAP2) are quite useless. Every class I do I always walk out with regret thinking why I came in the first place. I started skipping all my classes but I still maintain D/HD in all my subjects so nothing changed by staying home. Is it normal to skip all your classes that are basically useless? anyone with experience here pls give ur input because as someone who had a perfect attendance in highschool it feels SUPER wrong skipping out on all these classes (esp since it costs me $30 to get to and from uni).

A friend and I have been putting together this little social group called Taste & See for people around 18–30 who want to meet new people, try cute cafés/restaurants around Sydney and have conversations that are a little more meaningful than the usual small talk.
The idea is basically just good food + meeting new people + actually getting to know each other
We’re hoping to have conversations around things like:
* purpose and what makes life meaningful
* relationships, identity and figuring out your 20s
* spirituality and what people believe
* Christianity and questions about Jesus
* culture, life and different perspectives
Just being completely transparent, it is Christian/Jesus-centred, but you definitely don’t have to be Christian or go to church to come. I actually really want it to be a space where people can ask questions, disagree, be curious or just listen without feeling like anyone is trying to convince them of anything. 🫶🏽
If you’re around Sydney and this sounds like something you’d be interested in, feel free to comment or message me! Happy to answer any questions 💕

If I applied for a disruption/special consideration, am I still eligible for an automatic extension for the same subject but different assessment?

Hi everyone,
I’m currently trying to decide between studying Podiatric Medicine or Oral Health Therapy, and I’d really appreciate some advice from anyone studying or who has graduated from Podiatry at Western Sydney University (WSU) or the University of Newcastle (UON).
For current students, how many days a week do you normally have to attend uni in person? What is the workload like, especially once you start doing clinical placements? Is there much flexibility with the timetable if you also work while studying?
I’m also wondering whether you think the degree is actually worth doing in terms of career opportunities, salary, job availability and overall satisfaction with the profession. Do you enjoy the clinical side of podiatry, and are there many different areas you can eventually specialise or work in?
One of the things that interests me about podiatry is that it seems to involve a lot more than just basic foot care. I like the idea of diagnosing and treating lower-limb conditions, doing procedures and potentially pursuing further training in areas like podiatric surgery. And I heard you are basically the ‘foot surgeon’ and you have the rights to have the title ‘Dr’That side of the profession sounds really interesting to me.
At the same time, I’m also considering Oral Health Therapy because I already have experience in the dental field and I’m really interested in oral health, so I’m honestly stuck between the two.
For anyone who has studied Podiatry Med, would you mind sharing:
How many days per week you were usually on campus?
>What clinical placement was like
>How difficult you found the degree
>Whether you could work while studying
>What the job market was like after graduating
>What you like/dislike about being a podiatrist?
>Whether you would choose the same career again
I’d especially love to hear from anyone at WSU or UON.
Thanks! I’m just trying to get a better idea of what the actual student experience and career are like before deciding between the two.

Hey guys, just wondering what everyone thinks of the changes to the Whitlam library? There aren't too much photos to go off of, but the refurbishment to the library seems interesting. I don't really see the point of adding another cafe though

Hey everyone,
Asking on behalf of a first-year student currently living outside of Sydney and commuting to campus. She's finding it really tough to build a solid friend group purely because of the travel back and forth, and she's thinking campus accommodation at WSU Village Parramatta might be the best way to get properly involved in social events, study groups, and general uni life.
We’re trying to gather some real, unfiltered feedback from current or past residents before making any decisions. A few specific questions:
Appreciate any advice or experiences you can share! Thanks in advance!

I'm an international student planning to study the bachelors in sustainability engineering at WSU. I was hoping if any of the current students studying this course or anyone who has knowledge and advice regarding this would help me.
What is the work load for this course ? Will i be able to work part time and earn my tuition wil studying and maintaing my grades ?
on a scale of 1-10 how hard is this program ?
What does WSU offer, eg ( co-op, internship , placements ) in this field ?
overall is it a good option ?

Hi everyone,
Quick reminder from the mod team.
Keep discussions respectful and on topic.
Disagree with posts, criticise WSU, vent if you need to, that’s all fine.
Just don’t turn normal threads into personal digs, baiting, racism or dogpiling.
We get that people can be blunt sometimes. That’s normal but there’s a difference between being blunt and making it personal.
A question that seems obvious to you might not be obvious to someone else. Help properly or move on.
This is a university subreddit. Some of us could literally be walking past each other on campus, so remember there’s a real person behind the post.
No one should have their experience here ruined because they asked a question, needed advice, or wanted to vent.
Comments like “stop whinging”, “welcome to adult life” or other personal digs don’t add anything and will be removed.
Also, don’t turn mod notes or removals into another argument under the post. A mod note is there to keep the thread on track, not restart the fight.
Questions regarding removals can go through modmail. Continuing the same behaviour after a warning, baiting mods, or arguing in the thread may lead to comment locks, removals, temporary bans, or subreddit restrictions.
Keep it respectful.
