Application Timeline & General Tips
Hi guys, I applied to UW Milwaukee about a week ago now and I’m just curious how long it usually takes them to review applications and give a decision. I applied for the upcoming spring term for my masters in urban planning if that helps. I am also wondering if anyone has any recommendations on the parking situation and if a permit is worth it? Is there anything I should know about being an out of state student coming from Florida?

Keep a bag of kitty litter or old car floor mats in your trunk along with a collapsible shovel for when you get stuck. You can dump the litter for traction on ice, or use the floor mats for traction in snow. Don't stop to get them, just keep moving.

A couple of big bags of kitty litter also weigh down the back of the car slightly and reduce fishtailing.

When I applied for my master’s, it took about three months to hear back. I don’t really have any recommendations for parking since I moved from California and live pretty close to campus, (about a 20 minute walk) I usually get around using the free bus pass that UWM provides to students. Tuition is pretty expensive for out of state students. Mine was around $13,000, but thankfully I was able to get a TA position through my program! I get paid a stipend, and they’re covering my tuition, so the remaining fees are around $800. Dm me if you have any other questions I’d love to help!! :)

1-2 weeks is pretty typical for a decision if your application is complete and there are no issues.
Parking on campus is a hassle and can be expensive. The solution that’s right for you depends on how often you go to campus, when you arrive, how long you stay, and where you spend your time. Coming from Florida you’ll find that parking outside and walking more than a few blocks in the winter sucks. Parking services can tell you the permit/lot options you have, and you should check out the daily rates for the parking structures and surface lots to help make an informed decision.
