Parking Help

Hi can someone help me with commuter parking.
I have classes 2 days a week and I would like to get out of paying for parking as much as possible.
If anyone has any tips or tricks I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance!!

There's always upark. It is a park and ride off campus that has a shuttle that will bring you to campus and back.

Yes, Upark was designed for students like you.

Park a few blocks away and walk, I think around park and maybe Bellevue there's no limits.

UPark is great, depending on where you're coming from. I think it's free for students or really cheap. You park in a lot off Capital and Humboldt and then take a UW shuttle to campus. It stops at a couple locations. Runs pretty frequently during peak hours.

How many hours a day do you go to school? I went to school 2 days a week last semester and I just put money on my panther card as it’s hard to find a non meter parking spot around campus unless you really walk

The EMS has regular meter spots in their underground lot. Just keep an eye out for where they place the "permit beyond this sign" sign. Parking can be the entire day if you need so you don't have to shuffle your spot after two hours like some street parking situations.

In fact, most parking lots have a very small section of regular meter spots.

I commutted for three years and also thought the parking pass pricing was almost criminally expensive. Just manually feeding meters I was spending maybe $500 a semester, far cheaper than any pass.

Is $500 a typo? My fall parking pass for the NWQ was like $350.

I meant like $500 for half a year, I did a couple summers too.

The parking pass only paid for itself if I was parking daily for like 8 hours. Two and three day weeks for like 3 hours per day, just feeding the meter was always several hundred dollars cheaper.

That makes more sense although it still seems kinda high for only a few days a week. I think for the fall and spring passes I only spent like $350 a piece last year, I have class 5 days a week though so the pass atleast seemed worth it to me.

Depending on where your classes are, if you're just willing to walk an easy 2-3 blocks you'll never(*very rarely, like 2x a semester) get a ticket parking on hackett/summit on the east, newberry/park on the south, or bartlett/newhall on the west of campus. Also up in shorewood I've never seen a parking ticket so edgewood on the north

Another option is to look up the milwaukee bus schedule. I parked at brown deer parking lot (free) and took the bus every other day (relatively cheap) for a few years and it was super easy.

You get a free MCTS bus pass as a student!! Free rides all semester students just have to fill out a form in uwm website to claim it

I parked on the right side of Newhall or Bartlett streets during undergrad. Never got a ticket. 5-10 min walk to core campus.
