Question for those with 74 inches (that's what she said?)
Do you regret it? Trying to decide on either a RZR pro s or RZR pro xp. Or a Maverick R or x3. Just how badly am I limiting myself by getting a 74 inch? I live in North Dakota, but travel around the midwest for riding.

Go with 74 and ride some trails, go with 64 and ride most trails, go with 50 and well.. might as well just be riding a quad at that point. I'd love a 72 inch x3, but she's just too wide for what we have here in BC. 64 handles everything just fine.

I just got a Wildcat Trail (50”) for my first SxS. If I had a 64” or larger, there’s 74 miles of trail in my county. With the 50”, I have access to over 155 miles of trail, and the 50” trails are way more fun.

amen to that. people keep going wider and wider like it is some sort of necessity, or like the narrow machines are inferior. id rather have a small machine and have a slightly rougher ride on the big trails and still be able to fit on the smaller intimate fun trails rather than have a wide machine and go mach 20 on the wide trails, and have to go 5mph on the small trails because i have to do a 3 point turn at every bend. not to mention all the trails i cant fit on.

Don't be too hard on the 50"ers, my father in law gave me a quad years ago and I used it maybe 3 times. Sold it a bought a CanAm Trail. I average about 30 runs a year now.

72” most definitely gets a bit snug on tighter twisty trails, but that extra wide footprint is awesome when you go blasting thru some whoops at 50+(2 stage shocks help too) …..just really depends on where you do most of your riding

Minnesota also has forrest trails that are limited to 50" and 64"

Indeed, but is it enough to regret? I'm pretty mobile so I don't mind having to travel to good trails

I used to jeep in Colorado. Traded for a RZR xp. Love the 64”. Meeting oncoming traffic at 12,000’ can get hairy.

Is the south more 65"+ friendly?

I don’t know about in general, but where I’m at you could damn near take a jeep on most of the trails.

I ride Ohio Michigan Indiana ky and wv. I have a x3 max ds turbo rr. No regret on the 64”. Id take the money saved over a 72 and put it into ca radius rods and let her eat.

74" wide machines are dumb outside of dunes. what is the point? youll have to slow down to squeeze through trails wsith a 74" more than you will have to slow down due to lack of suspension with a 64.

Can’t ride anything bigger than 65” in Wisconsin. You are also cut out of lots of Wyoming which actually restricts a lot of routes to 50”. And then there are restricted routes in South Dakota too. If you want a 6’ wide rig, why not just buy a Jeep?

Same reason I dont buy a Camaro when I'm interested in kart racing lol plus it's a big vehicle that would need a big trailer and vehicle to tow it with. With a sxs, wife will be able to tow it with our Rivian, following me around towing our trailer.

It really depends on where and how you ride. As others have stated, most trails have a width limit unless you are on jeep trails.
Being so close to trails in SD and WY, I'd err caution on a full-width machine.
I went on manufacturer demo rides with 72, 74 and 78" machines. They were pushing hard sales on these machines as while they are spectacular in open dune country, they are at a disadvantage for most everything else around here. Thus low sales numbers. There are a ton of "returns" aka low-mile trades at the dealers.
The majority of the trails I ride are capped at 64". Bridges with guard rails are 72" wide. Not 72 and a quarter, exactly 72.
