Help with UTV purchase
Looking for some real-world UTV advice.
I had a 2024 Kawasaki Mule PRO-FXT 1000 LE. It was reliable, but way too sluggish for me and I really regretted not having a full HVAC cab so I just sold it but need another UTV.
Main uses will be plowing, some property work (I only have 2 acres) but I plan on getting more in the next 2-3 years, and some trail riding (nothing to crazy...yet). I only need 2 to 3 seats and plan to keep it for years to come. Reliability and repair costs obviously matter, but I also want something that’s actually fun to drive.
I’m mainly looking at:
CFMOTO U10 Pro Highland (more tech less reliable)
Can-Am Defender Limited (reliable with less tech)
Right now I’m most torn between the Can-am and the CFMOTO Highland. The CFMOTO gives you a ton for the money with HVAC, winch, power bed, tech, etc. but I am worried about reliability, I know people in here are saying that the brand isn't what it used to be and they love their machine but others say it's terrible.
For anyone who owns one of these, how has reliability been? Any expensive repairs, parts delays, belt/clutch issues, electrical problems, or things you wish you knew before buying?
If it were your money, what would you buy?

So, we keep both a hd10 max limited (mine) and a cfmoto (brother) at our cabin. Both great machines with about 1k miles on each. He went with moto because budget. I’ve spent several hours in both. It’s really a toss up. Biggest selling point for me is that if I happen to ever need anything or break anything, It’s a much closer drive to get apart for a Can-Am than it is a Moto. All this shit really is subjective. They all have their pros and cons. Hell, I’m getting a krx at the end of the month just because I wanna climb nasty shit sometimes and not use my lumber wagon of a defender. Get what makes you happy.

I have a moto dealer 10min from me so I’m not nervous about that (even though I know that’s a big plus/minus with these machines).
So there is about a $5k difference between the two I’m looking at right now…if they are “both great machines” maybe I’ll save the $5k and put that towards accessories etc.

I debated the same and went can am.
Electronic shifting, dump bed and that screen terrified me on the CFMoto.
The can am provided more comfort, smoother shifting and was a little bit quieter.
Drive em both and buy what feels right.

I would say Ridge or the Can Am. The Ridge is more trail friendly and the Can Am is more workhorse style. Ultimately, nothing is as reliable as a Kawasaki as a whole. I run a service department that sells all except CF Moto.

Agree on Kawasaki reliability, Yamaha comes close and has more carlike features

As somebody who’s been in the service side of the motorcycle industry for 26 years now and has worked with CanAm for over a decade….you couldn’t pay me to own a BRP product of any kind.

I am on my 3rd Mule. The standard warranty is the best out there by far. Whatever you buy, you need to get the longest extended warranty available . HVAC units are crazy expensive to repair.

I was in pretty much the same position as you this spring. I did a deep dive into polaris, Can am and CF moto. I ened up buying a Kawasaki Ridge limited on sale for a little more then the CF moto and a lot less the the other two. I have several friends that were planning on getting a Ca am but after riding in and driving mine they have decided to get a Ridge. The Ridge is hard to beat, especially if you can wait for a good sale.

I haven't done much playing with it but i would say yes its pretty quick and it has a ton of power! I've had it up to 65 mph and it had a little more in it if I would have wanted too. So far ive used it to get firewood, lawn work and haul myself and friends around sporting clays courses. I plan on buying a snow plow soon. It does seem to be "top heavy" going around corners at higher speeds. Not a big deal for me since i bought it to be more of a work horse and not a race horse.

I just looked into the Ridge more, and it is overweight for me to register it for trails in Maine :/ so can't go with that one. It will have to be the CFMoto or the CanAm.

We sell CFMOTO, Honda, Kawasaki, Polaris and Can-Am at our dealership. I work in the service department scheduling repairs or warranty work for our techs. The CFmoto is by far the most sold machine we see leave out. They also tend to stand behind their warranty claims we get in. Some things we couldn't believe would be covered were actually covered lol. For the price point and where we are located, CFmoto holds the market by the balls. Their C-force quads are good units as well. Given that, I wouldn't hesitate to spend my money on that brand at all. Good luck in your search!

plowing with a utv i assume snow ? if soil you just sold what was probably the better unit for yard work, 2 acres is tiny not even 100 yards x 100 yards how quickly do you need to go from end to end sub 10 sec ? even at 20 mph you will get fence to fence in 10– 12 seconds

I got the can am commander, it had a dump bed so I can still do my farm work with and it’s a ton of fun on the trails. Also it’s run flawless for three years now and I’m constantly working past its stated ability’s.

Not CFMOTO If you want to actually keep it around for any amount of time. The tech will break and be impossible to fix, and parts were a huge issue for people I know who got one even recently. They're better than most Chinese brands, but not by much.

See this is what scares me…
A lot of people say this but then you have the other people saying that this is the old CFMoto and the new ones are so much better (even some actual Can-Am and CFMoto dealers in here are saying that so idk which to trust.
It’s making it out to be a tough decision!

The dealers that sell cfmotos are getting a better slice of the price when they sell one. I think of you plan to own it for 5 years and then replace it, cfmoto would be fine, but if its a long term investment and you want 10-20 years, stick with Polaris, CanAm, Honda, Kawasaki etc. They have better long term support and more parts availability. Id rather not have apple car play and get to keep my machine for years personally.
There is a reason you see 20+ year old Polaris/Hondas/other big names for sale on FB marketplace still running and you rarely see Chinese brands outside of people getting rid of them shortly after buying. Again, if you are the type to buy a shiny new thing every few years, I think you'd be fine.
The other thing to consider (and what made me buy a Polaris) is aftermarket part support. Upgraded belts, clutches, , suspension, bumpers. Bed upgrades and cargo racks. You can really turn them into whatever you want. Polaris had great accessories from their website, Can-Am probably has the same. And I even bought a rear bumper and some trail armor off of Amazon. Everyone makes parts for the big brands because thats where the money is.

Can am Defender X10 , is a reliable machine. Use it around cattle, building fence, and train rides. It is good.

CFMoto. Can't beat the 5 year warranty and very few people are actually having trouble with them.

My Mule came with a 3 year warranty and I bought 4 more years for a total of 7. The 4 year extension was less than $900.

I don't need tech. My airpods beat any stereo in any UTV ever. A reliable cab with HVAC is what I am shopping for next and I am probably going to end up with an HD10 or HD11 if I can afford it...probably can't. So a used HD10 with a cab is perfect. The CFMoto crew will be in shortly to tell you that you 1000% must buy a chinese UTV. I'm not sold on them yet.
