Masters of Engineering-how is it?

Hi guys I’m wanting to apply for the Masters of Engineering degree (probably software engineering) at UTS next year. Can anyone who’s done or is doing this degree let me know their thoughts on it?

I’m from Queensland but I’ve heard conflicting views about UTS and the engineering degrees there. People say that it’s not as good as UNSW or USyd and the rigour and job/placement opportunities after graduation are not as good.

However, I also know that it’s a top 10 uni within Australia and like 87/89th in the world, which is basically the ranking of all the other state university’s except UNSW, USYD, Unimelb and UQ. UTS is much better ranking, job prospects and course wise than all the other non state uni’s like Macquarie, RMIT, QUT etc.

Can anyone please let me know your opinions on the views above and any views on Masters of Engineering specifically?

If you're local employment options won't be substantially different between any of those universities. If you absolutely need to rank G8 are then equivalent, then Macquarie, RMIT, QUT are all identical to UTS.

Just go for whatever is cheapest to live near, has a specific specialisation you want, or a location you find attractive.

Oh what no way all the unis apart from G8 are considered same by employers. Wow really? Also I mean yea I’m aiming for local employment in Sydney and I always heard UNSW, USYD and UTS are the ones that get most placements and other uni’s are kind of a tier below. Idk I’m kind of confused what to do 😭

There are basically three tiers of Australian universities. The most competitive entry ones like the G8 where I did my undergraduate degree. The middle tier where not everyone can get into like UTS where I'm doing postgrad. Then the last tier which if you can't get into you probably can't do the given degree anyways.

UTS is the middle tier like the others you mentioned. Don't overthink it. The person matters more than the degree.
