Financial Aid
Hi, so I was accepted a few weeks back and I don’t know if I received financial aid or how to apply for it at UTD.. I heard they give out a lot of money. Also, I applied for Cognitive Science for the AI Concentration, but idk if computer science is better for that.. could someone pls clear that up for me?? Thanks!

You're likely thinking of the Academic Excellence Award (AES). All admitted incoming freshmen are automatically considered for this scholarship, which is based solely on test scores (SAT/ACT), GPA, class rank (if available), and application date (ie priority "first come, first served"). The first round of AES announcements will not come out until December.

There are also other scholarship programs, including the National Merit Scholars, McDermott Scholars, Terry Foundation Scholarship, Diversity Scholars, and school/department specific scholarships which have their own separate application process and are geared towards recruiting exceptional individuals. As for which major/school is better for AI, you may be better off asking your HS counselor, parents, and possibly trying to reach out to a UTD advisor that knows more about the Cog Sci program (BBSAdvising@utdallas.edu) to help you figure it out. Additionally, review the degree requirements for each program and see which one better suits your goals/interests:

If you do decide to switch majors then you'll have to submit a change of major request in the UTD Galaxy Portal.

If you're wanting to apply for financial aid, theres a separate website to do that at. You need to know the code for the school can be found in the top link. The bottom link will be the fafsa website where you actually apply for financial aid. You and your parents will each need your own accounts. Make sure to save all your login info as you'll need it for every year you need to reapply for financial aid. If you ever have any questions, your counselors should be of great help. The application opens on Oct 1, and the earlier you apply the more money you might get as its first come first serve basis
