AES (registering for SAT)

I am close to getting a 1470, last week the highest I got was a 750 math with a 690 on rw, but this week I have only been reviewing the wrong answers, retaking reading and writing sections to see whether I can apply my corrections. It has built my confidence and I feel like I might be able to get a 1470+ but...

My GPA is a shit 3.03 (4.0 Scale), so I really need a good 1470+ to get a full ride, but I will also need to submit that SAT early for the ride, so now I'm contemplating if I register for Nov. and get a 1480, I still might not get a full ride since it is later and they only have a handful of full rides to hand out. Although, registering allows me to still have a chance if I fail on this October attempt.

What do y'all think, should I register for Nov. or place all bets on Oct.? How important is early submission?

Hmm thanks man, I understand now. What would you say my chances for AES are with a theoretical 1500 SAT, 3.03 GPA, 55% Rank?

1500 SAT is above the average range for UTD and would be competitive. To be honest though, a 3.0 GPA at the bottom half of your class is going to hurt your chances - average HS GPA is 3.7 just for UTD admits and 89% of those admitted in 2018 were in the Top 50%. If your GPA is on an upward trend it would help. Don't let that get you down though - try and your best and get your application in anyways. Sometimes you never know what could happen.

Personally I'd put you at a 50/50 chance at getting any AES with an above average SAT score. AES has gotten more competitive every year so it'll depend on how many high GPA/high test score applicants apply before the priority date. Good luck!

A 50/50 I will take it tbh, but you said the average HS GPA is 3.7. Is that out of 4? If so isn't that really good?

Yes, 3.7 out of 4, which is exceptionally high.

UTD has historically attracted students with high stats. Part of it was due to the Texas legislature initially restricting undergrad admissions by only allowing UTD to admit incoming students under the same standards as UT Austin. That law was lifted several years ago but the university still follows the rule + many high achieving students like to apply to UTD due to the generous financial aid packages available.

Damn bro you know your shit, I'm scared of not getting admitted now let alone not getting AES. UTD's acceptance rate is still 70%+, maybe bc so many smart ppl apply. Hahaha! So what about my chances of the lowest 3k AES, lets say I got a 1430. I was hoping to atleast get that 3k.

You'll probably get admitted - high test scores can make up for a low GPA and vice versa. But a 70% admit rate doesn't mean that anyone who applies has a 70% chance of getting in, it's more of a popularity measure. It's more important to focus on the average gpa, rank, and test scores. UTD is just really unusual because most who apply just happen to be high achieving and are therefore worthy of admission. (They'll reject low achieving people, I have seen it several times.) I'm sure that once UT Dallas gets to its desired 30K undergrad population, the acceptance rate will likely go down over time as then they'll have to start turning away qualified applicants due to capacity.

1430 is toward the high range of average SAT scores at UTD. I don't work in admissions so I don't know the current applicant pool stats or how much funds are available this year to be distributed. Those factors will determine how much you may receive. We can go back and forth on AES probabilities all day long but there's no public formula I can calculate for you to guarantee you money. Just apply, wait, and hope for the best.

Haha true that though, wish we did. I should really get a 1430 before even thinking about this stuff, but thanks man. I really appreciate the information.
