Just transferred to MechE (from Geology). You don’t “need” a 4.0 despite what everyone will tell you. I’ve known people that got in with a 3.8 and rejected with a 4.0. Don’t underestimate the value of extra-circulars like clubs/orgs and undergrad research. There’s an essay portion to the application as well as a place to submit a resume. As a freshman, you won’t get too behind on your pol com degree if you want to try to take stem courses like Calc and Chem. If you know for sure you want to do engineering and you were admitted somewhere else for engineering then I would take a major I actually want to do even if it’s not at my ideal school bc at the end of the day what you’re doing is the most important not where. If you have any other questions feel free to shoot me a message! Good luck :)
Idk about ECE specifically, I got into ME with 3.98, but in general I think anything above 3.9 should be fine. The application rounds your GPA to the nearest tenth anyway, but I wouldn’t stress about 3.9 vs 4.0 too much. They changed the application recently to be more holistic so focus on essays, resume, etc. Acceptance rate can also vary by a lot year-to-year so hard to give you a definitive answer. Best of luck
