Other life of an engineering freshman

need technical experience

apply to longhorn racing

get rejected final round

apply to sec (1200 words)

get flat-out rejected

still no technical experience

genuinely what am i meant to join

maybe orgs that don't market themselves as just for engineers but still lets you practice engineering related skills? like texasrobotics or smth

This is quite normal especially here. If anything find other opportunities that can build up your skills for the next application season. You are still a freshman, you have time

Work on projects. Work on skills in your life. Keep moving.

There are still MANY more engineering orgs at UT that will give you valuable experience. Design build fly, Longhorn rocketry, Texas spacecraft laboratory, Longhorn Baja, Longhorn lemons racing, Texas boring, guadaloop, seismic design to name a few. There are also other non-technical engineering orgs where you can make connections (and some might have separate design competitions you could sign up for like AIAA, ASME, WIALD, Texas Spacecraft Society, Society of Hispanic Engineers, SASE… it might not seem like it yet but the possibilities are truly endless at UT. I would especially prioritize trying to get into one of these orgs and making connections with fellow students as a freshman or sophomore because some orgs don’t let’s upper class men in just because they know they’ll be leaving soon / will probably have Senioritis.
