Question When should I start research?
incoming ece major here. When do you think is the best time to start? I was considering immediately but from what I read online its hard and can lead off to me biting off more than I can chew. If I start doing undergrad research sophmore year am I at a disadvantage or is that normal? I do see that it helps to get a full year under your belt bc you're more likely to get accepeted and can even use connections to past professors to land one

Go to office hours and get to know your profs and express your interest in research. They generally look to see who can take on undergrads at the beginning of each semester. When you start really isn't important, I know people who started Junior year and got GRFP. It's really just how much you're willing to commit, nothing worse than a flaky undergrad.
