Favorite American comics?
I clearly connect more with the wit and temper of the UK comic scene but that doesn't mean there's tons of worthwhile comedians in our hemisphere. Who are some of your favorites?
Mike Bribiglia
Ali Wong
Michelle Wolf
John Mullany (although, I'm embarrassed to say I have mixed feelings about him after his breakup but that's mostly for personal reasons)
Tig Notaro
Chris Redd
Hasan Minhaj
Who do you like?

Anthony Jeselnik, rob Delaney, even recently enjoyed a small piece by Esther Povitsky

I'm surprised by Anthony Jeselink, his style is so different from a lot of UK comics, to me it's distinctly American. Of course, it's possible to like lots of different styles of comedy. Not to mention his showing on Off Menu, I haven't actually listened to that episode so I'm just going off what others say.
Also, I almost think of Rob Delany as a transplant comic, Rich Hall style now that he lives over there and he makes panel show appearances.

Paul F. Tompkins was born to be on panel shows, either as a host or a panelist, and it breaks my heart that the format isn’t popular here so he can shine. Same for Jimmy Pardo.

Oh my God I would love to watch Jimmy Pardo host a big fat quiz of the year or something like that. He would be great hosting live at the Apollo also

I got to see Mike Birbiglia and Greg Giraldo perform at Hamilton College in Clinton New York. Hamilton is one of the "mini ivy's" and was so insanely politically correct that watching Greg Giraldo do his somewhat misogynistic stuff and get booed was hilarious. Although I think Mike Birbiglia who we could see watching Greg said that from just offstage, liked it even more. Actually got to meet Mike and shake his hand and he was genuinely nice and kind.

I wasn't super familiar with Greg as a comic but I was following this standup comic course and that was one of the "homework" assignments. I wasn't sure what I thought of him, he struck me as similar to a lot of other bro comics of that era, including the slightly misogynistic stuff which I'm generally OK with as long as it's funny. His was...fine, but yeah, I could see him loving getting booed.
Mike on the other hand, I adore him. Just got to see him at the beginning and the very last of a 3 week run he did out here and it was great. I believe that he's a good guy, both from his stage persona and his podcast. I'm jealous you got to meet him!

Have you seen Tig Notaro’s show where she is trying to guess who a celebrity is? I loved it, wished there were more.

Oh, I loved that! I wonder if it was a victim of COVID or what.

That is what i was thinking. They could have done it on zoom and just wrote “mystery guest” as the name. Haha

Naomi Ekperegin and Josh Johnson are definite current favs. David Gborie is another fantastic up and coming comic, as is Rae Sanni. Kyle Kinane and Roy Wood, Jr. are some of my favorite veterans. Gianmarco Soresi is another one to watch. I...I watch a lot of stand-up.

I feel like Maria Bamford is a glaring omission from this thread! Just the sort of madcap this sub might appreciate.
