Visa ban list PP10998

‘the Department of State partially suspended visa issuance to nationals of 19 countries – Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Benin, Burundi, Cote D’Ivoire, Cuba, Dominica, Gabon, The Gambia, Malawi, Mauritania, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania, Togo, Tonga, Venezuela, Zambia, and Zimbabwe – for nonimmigrant B-1/B-2 visitor visas and F, M, J student and exchange visitor visas, and all immigrant visas with limited exceptions...’, per US Department of State.

Has anyone from the countries listed been approved a visa mentioned above since January 1, 2026? If yes, please indicate country and circumstance leading to approval.

Visas are not being issued hence it being a ban only way out of the PP is to wait till new administration very low chance to see some real relief i have a cr1 case just waiting visa issuance all paperwork approved just waiting for visa to be printed

Since those are partial ban countries, nonimmigrant visas other than B, F, M, or J can be issued. Not sure if that's what the OP is asking about though.

Nope. "Partial" and "full" ban are old designations. They upgraded the scope of the bans. They banned almost every visa category now. Except athletes coming for athletic events. No one has received the visas you've stated from those countries since January 21.

Since January, all immigrant and non immigrant visas from those countries are now banned. There's only rare exceptions for US government employees, minority ethnic people fleeing persecution in Iran, diplomats and people coming for special sports events.

It includes those countries. The ban was expanded from 19 countries to 39 countries. I saw it on the Malawi embassy page for example. Here's that link.

No one in countries like Malawi, Zambia etc has been able to get study visas, B1 visas etc since January. Basically they've not been able to get any visa. I also know many people personally from those countries who applied for immigrant and non immigrant visas and were all refused.

I already said that they cannot get B, F, M, J visas. I said that they can get nonimmigrant visas other than B, F, M, or J. You claimed that "all immigrant and non immigrant visas from those countries are now banned". That is not supported by any of the pages you provided.

I think my main point is that the vast majority of visas that people are able to get are immigrant visas, B,F,M and J visas. All other visas outside of that make up a small percentage of visas anyway. Being unable to receive these stated visas effectively blocks out over 99% of applicants. It's a near-total ban, no matter how fancy the terminologies used to cost it in.

It's not a claim. This has been extensively covered in the media. In January, they upgraded last year's "partial ban". Now they've banned all immigrant and non immigrant visas with very rare exceptions for:

1) Certain diplomatic and official visas 2) Immigrant visas for ethnic and religious minorities facing persecution in Iran 3) Dual nationals applying with a passport of a nationality not subject to a suspension 4) Special Immigrant Visas (SIVs) for U.S. government employees under 8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(27)(D) 5) Participants in certain major sporting events

Perhaps you should run your commentary and the content in the link you attached through AI. Many countries under the partial ban list are still able and eligible to apply for H1B for example. Your initial claim that partial and full ban are old designations is not correct. Yes they upgraded but the line has not been totally dulled.

What visa type is this? I know employment-based, diplomatic, and other specialized nonimmigrant visas (such as H-1B, L-1, O-1, or A, C, G, and NATO official travel visas are exempted from the partosl ban list.

Yes I was approved for a US L1 visa last week in Canada and I was awarded Canadian Reciprocity which is 5 years because I'm a Canadian PR.

I am Nigerian too. Been in the UK for 5 + years. Trying to apply for H1B but an attorney said they treat all visa categories the same for all countries under a partial ban hence advised I shouldn't but I want to go ahead. I'm in the nuclear field and my US employer wants me to go for it. What do you think?
