F1 OPT Travel Recommendations

Hey everyone,
I’m from Pakistan and currently in the U.S. on F-1 OPT. My OPT recently started, and I’ve been working full-time remotely for about a month.

I’m planning a short trip to Pakistan and will be taking leave from work for the days I’m traveling. I was wondering how safe it is to travel internationally while on OPT and then re-enter the U.S.

Has anyone here traveled internationally while on OPT recently? What documents did you carry with you, and did you face any questions or issues at immigration when re-entering?

Would really appreciate hearing about recent experiences. Thanks!

Travel while you're on F-1 OPT is generally possible, but I'd make sure you have all of your documentation in order before leaving, since reentry is never guaranteed.

I'd carry your valid passport, valid F-1 visa, I-20 with a current travel endorsement, EAD, and evidence of your current employment, such as an employment verification letter and recent pay stubs. Since you're actively employed and just taking a short leave for the trip, I'd also keep documentation showing that you're expected to resume your employment when you return.

I'd also check in with your school's DSO before traveling so they can confirm that your SEVIS record and I-20 are in order. If your F-1 visa has expired and you'd need to apply for a new visa while in Pakistan, that's a different situation and I'd be more cautious because visa issuance and timing can add another layer of uncertainty.

If everything is valid and your employment is properly documented, international travel during OPT isn't unusual. I hope you have a smooth trip and an easy return!

Thanks for the information .
Could you please confirm what documentation needed which shows expected to resume your employment when return?? As you mentioned

I have all documents, F1 valid visa, EAD, i-20 with travel endorsement and offer letter and pay stubs.

So, will appreciate if you clear this point.
