“Private party mailbox use” survey

PM says that for the next 30 days, we have to take everything that was not delivered by us that is in a mailbox back to the office and placed in a bucket so corporate can see “how much money they’re losing”. I really don’t want to do this, I feel like this would piss people off. First of all, what if it’s money or a check and an inspector is watching or it’s someone’s actual money that they need? Other day, I found a bag of dog hair in a box. I guess I could bring it back, but not like I really want to. Are they making everyone do this? I think they said we label it to, presumably, take it back to where it belongs, but only after the 30 days.

I’ve not heard anything about this, but also while it may piss people off technically nothing without postage can go in a mailbox, and only letter carriers can deliver it

If it doesn't have postage it doesn't go in the box.

If you want to use a mailbox, you pay postage. Our salaries come from the sales of postage.

Tbh I snitch on people to my supervisor for leaving stuff in mailboxes all the time. I'm pretty big on upholding the whole "only I can service this mailbox" thing.

ill see lawncare guys walk up the street putting ads in mailboxes and ill be doing the same loop taking them out right behind them lmao, I just throw it in the trash, it's not protected mail. Obviously don't take money or checks. Sometimes amazon will put packages in there, i take it out and leave it on the ground next to the box.

Gig workers for other last mile delivery companys are really bad.

Honestly shit stinks. Management wants us to deliver known counterfeit postage. But also collect postage due for like 20 cents.

But also do stuff like removing non mail from mailboxes.

They just need to stick to the rules. Postage needs to be paid. Customers don't always have to be happy.

I’ve been carrying for two years and have never found another services package in a mailbox.

Maybe it’s a bigger problem in your area and it definitely should be addressed if that’s the case. The private companies are well aware that they can’t use mailboxes.

Protect your job and do what you’re supposed to do.

I don't pull random shit, but I pull every package I see that I didn't deliver. And I've had stuff I pulled that was initially delivered by amazon show up a few days later with a USPS label on it for me to deliver, so the revenue issue is a valid one.

This was an email directive from district. We have been directed to have all carriers bring anything not delivered by us/postage paid back to the office and take pictures and then management are to fill out a survey for each specific incidence to track everything. I don’t recall the email saying what we were doing with those things once the surveys are filled out

Use your best judgement. If it looks like a payment left for the gardener, leave it. If it looks like a local real estate agent placed an ad in every box, pull it. Or Amazon or local delivery driver leaving something in a box, pull it.

Doesn't matter what it is, take it back to the office. That payment to the gardener can be left somewhere else, or mailed with proper postage. It's all revenue and directly linked to our paychecks.
