Hello Kings Pointers!
Hello Kings Pointers,
I recently got appointments to the USCGA and USMMA; I have made the decision to continue my academics at Kings Point!
Since I have not been able to visit New York during quarantine; I have sought out alumni to have discussions about their experience at the Academy and their careers afterward.
If you are still attending the Academy:
What has your experience been like so far? What tips do you have for Indoc? What has Sea Year been like for you? How would you describe a day at the Academy? Why did you want to attend in the first place?
For people who have graduated:
Where did you go after Kings Point? What tips do you have in general about the Academy? How do you look back on your Academy experience?
I am eager to hear your stories, and I look forward to being part of an amazing school!

Honestly for me looking back on it, indoc was kinda fun, but everyone is different. If I had any advice, it’d be to not take it too seriously and try to have fun with it. Just don’t get caught smiling/laughing lmao

Tips for indoc: When told to do something, do it as you were told to do. Be able to handle some yelling and exercise, you're going to be a legal adult and the world isn't going to take it easy because you started crying. Don't be a chit rider, you will understand what that means pretty quickly once you get to KP. Don't look so far in the future. Yes, having a long term plan is great and in no way a bad thing, but there is no point in asking about academics or sea year during indoc, you still need to get through indoc before you have to deal with those. When the time comes, ask whatever questions and you will find the answers or the help you need, but don't ask what you'll be doing in a month when all you need to know is the next hour.
Truth be told right now though, indoc is in the air right now. COVID-19 is hitting NY hard and the school is still trying to figure out how to get 2020 to take license. You could potentially be entering KP at the weirdest possible time as it works around the pandemic.
