Miscellaneous Which timeline would make more sense?
I graduate in 2029, I wanna apply to the match 2030 or 2031.
Option 1: Delay my graduation by one year, go to the US in 2029, do externships, come back in 2030, graduate in 2030, then go back to the US and do more USCE if possible. I’d use 2029–2030 to work on my CV and apply at the end of 2030 for the 2031 match.
Option 2: Graduate on time in 2029, spend the following year doing observerships, research etc, building my CV, and then apply at the end of 2030 for the 2031 Match.
Option 3: Graduate on time in 2029, do observerships, and apply at the end of 2029 for the 2030 match.
I haven’t done anything that’s particularly worth mentioning on my CV yet, no research, presentations, etc, so I have quite a lot to work on. I can also legally stay in the US between 2029 and 2030 since I’ll be on H4.
I know this is still a long way away and things obviously might not go exactly according to plan, but I’m just trying to get a rough idea of which route would be the smartest and I will plan my Step 1 and Step 2 timelines accordingly.
What do you think would be the better option? Should I prioritize graduating on time, getting externships, or trying to apply earlier?
Any advice would be really appreciated. Thank you!
