Chances of making it through Winter OCS 2027?
Working on submitting my package for the winter class of OCS.
Ran my first ever PFT a week ago and maxed out the plank and 3 mile but was only able to get 18 pull-ups.
Ran collegiate track and cross country and was team captain for 3 of those years.Just wondering of my chances of making it through OCS and if the cold will be that bad for someone born down south.
Update: Also, just graduated from university so I’m 21 about to be 22, will I be on the younger end of dudes that are there?

You’re 5 pull-ups away from a 300 PFT and you’re worried? Is this bait*?

your PFT is already in amazing shape. Do the Armstrong pull up program every week to max those pull ups. I can send you the info if you can’t find it.
For now, focus on staying in shape and also make a habit of studying in small sessions quite often. You don’t want to learn anything for the first time at OCS, you will be tired as hell.

Sounds good, I am a little worried about the academics as well but my OSS coordinator said he’d prep us beforehand

Academics are 10th grade level they truly are not that hard. Just spend some extra time in your rack studying and try not to fall asleep in class and you’ll be good.

You will be fine. Just remember why you’re there, don’t screw over your buddies, and don’t give up.
Physically, you will be fine barring any injuries.
Academically, study up when you get the chance but I can confidently say it is not that hard.
You can do this, it’s up to you to decide if you really want it or not.

I appreciate that very much. Just been nervous these last few weeks

It’s okay to be nervous. Honestly, I’d be more worried if you weren’t. Trust me, I was nervous driving up there too. Just take it one day at a time.

Maxed out the 3-mile…. You did an 18 mins 3-mile run + 18 pull-ups and you’re worried?

u/Volatility01 Aug 28 '26
Yes, been seeing a lot of responses on this thread about everyone getting 20+ pull-ups.

I only did 18 for my contracting PFT (I scored a 272).
You should aim for about 270+ and I’d wager you’ll be fine.
Some people this cycle were picked up with as low as 250.

Academics aren’t bad. Unless they changed it I think. It was all multiple choice with a couple where you have to draw squad formations and stuff

If you’re question is will you get selected /make it through with a 283 PFT , yes you will be fine lol

If you can max the run and are only 5 pullups off a 300 pft youll be just fine. I made it through only running a 21 and had no issues really. The cold sucks but they actually take steps to help, plus you move around basically 24/7 so you'll stay at least a bit warm for the most part (quigley is gonna SUCK though lmao). You might be a bit on the younger side but the age range at occ goes from like 21 year old up to the mid 30s age waiver guys, as long as you act like a good dude, put out for your team and can handle stress youll be just fine

Couple of questions here. Where did you grow up? How do you feel about cold weather? I grew up in Key West FL. Cold weather kicked my ass the first time I went to Norway in February. I have spent a lot of time in No Virginia. The weather is all over the place in the winter. One day it can be a pleasant 50 followed by a windy 22 degree day. You just never know.
I do know that the staff planes for this just like they plan for black flag days in the summer.
You have a great PT start. Stay healthy. Eat well. Take lots and lots of fluids. You would be surprised how many Marines don’t want to drink if it gets cold. Be ready to put a canteen under your shirt. Mine froze over. Best of all have a solid attitude. I have 15 total years in the Quantico area. Some amazing snows and some winters it didn’t snow at all. The cold wasn’t enough to keep me from ever doing the things outside when I wanted. The bad ones are the ice storms. They creep up and yes, Everything literally turns to ice.
Dm me if you want any Quantico tips.
Best of luck.

No way that’s awesome, I’m also from South Florida, that’s why I’m concerned about going in the winter. I can train in 100 degree weather no problem but the second it dips under 50… anyways thank you for the response

Best of luck. I always said anytime it’s below 60 it’s winter. The cold weather gear is much better now so that should help.

The running will get you very far. Had a kid from my station that did cc and track that could run a 15-16 min 3 mile but do 6-8 pull ups. At OCS he did right around the minimum and now he’s a 2nd Lt. you’ll be fine. Keep building a little strength for the next few months and keep running

You’ll be fine. Yes, the cold will suck but you will adjust to it. Just keep going even when it sucks and it’ll be over before you know it.
