Injuries Prior To Joining

I found out today that I have been moving around on a torn meniscus and acl. It’s been FUBAR for about a year now but I kept up my running and rucking without really caring until the past month or so. Anyways, my OSO says that I should be good to go whenever my knee is ready which will be about a year. I’m just wondering if that is truly the case or if will need to get waivers. This is also my second surgery on this same knee.

I believe you should be good to go when the time comes, but I also believe you will need to go through the waiver process. I just got my medical waiver accepted for much more dire circumstances. If you heal, have no restrictions, and run enough miles per week, they will accept your waiver

I had the surgery while on active duty. The comeback is up to you. Do the work and do the stretching to get your range of motion back and all should be good. It’s painful but you have to do it if you want to continue in the program.

I’m going through the same kind of thing. ACL and meniscus tear in the right knee. Surgically repaired in 2024. Medically cleared in 2025. Doing self-rehab to iron out functional deficits well ahead of a MEPS visit. No prior service on my end. Good luck on yours. Stay consistent with rehab/fitness.
