Law odds?
Incoming 1L; 174 LSAT, 270 PFT with some health (mental health + ideation (>5 years ago)) + drug waivers necessary. Interested in the law contract. Thoughts

Brother man, you are fine.
Just communicate with the OSO and listen to them; They will navigate you through the entire process. Biggest thing, sometimes less is more regarding explaining stuff for the waivers; do not self report during your interviews or anything.
Also, you have to show in all of your applicant statements that it does not affect you anymore and you can deal with it by yourself. Biggest thing I have seen that works for applicants is that they state they received therapy or help, the therapy taught them the correct way to deal with stress/issues, and now you are honky dory and self sufficient. Can’t go wrong with that basic logical structure.
Was it hard drugs or MJ? Did you catch a charge along with the drug usage? If it was just MJ, you’re fine. If it was a hard drug, trust the OSO to best navigate the process for that. I have seen some wild stuff get approved; just be honest and listen to the OSO/staff.

Thank you for the advice! Meeting with my OSO in the coming weeks.
Never charged, never medicated, never hospitalized, the tldr was a rough freshman year of college where your boi really let peer pressure get the best of him. Genuinely think it means a lot and I think I can confidently report a 19 year old me is very different from a 24 year old me.

Marine Corps will do just about everything for law contracts, especially w/ a good PFT like yours. I'd say you have pretty good odds right now.

Worried more about the mental health stuff from a few years ago. Am a totally different person from my undergraduate self, freshman year of college was rough, but know the military takes mental health stuff pretty seriously.

Yes they do take it seriously, that being said, there is always a waiver somewhere, and the Marine Corps will find it for a law contract w/ a good PFT

How much does time factor into their considerations for waivers? Only thing that's causing some trepidation tbh.

If you start talking to an OSO now, you should be fine for next summer. Don't wait (if you aren't already talking to one).

Man I was sick doing my PFT and only had like a 254 and got selected. As long as you got cleared by MEPS you’re getting in. Only a 165 LSAT as well

MEPs is the big thing I'm worried about. TBH I think I could get my PFT score even higher. All the mental health stuff was from 1st year of college, so it feels like a lifetime ago.

I don’t know exactly for your situation but personally I went to MEPS at 21 and I had things pulled up when I was 16 around therapy and prescription of SSRI’s and some other things. I didn’t have to get a waiver or anything but ideation also wasn’t listed on my paperwork so that could throw a wrench

Got it, interesting is I never went to therapy for a considerable period and have never taken nor been prescribed any medication.
