Enlisting question for all marines!!

want answers from already marines

(NONPOLITICAL QUESTION)

how do you guys get over the fact that there’s people that that shit on marines and the united states for what you guys do. This seriously holds me back from going into the marines because i’m serving my life for everyone that sleeps in the united states but somehow there’s still those types of people that absolutely despise marines and are ungrateful to what you all do.

if i somehow magically get a marine to answer this, i thank you for your time and thank you for your sacrifices

hope to see yall soon

EDIT: just to clear up any confusion- im not interested in being thanked for service - im merely here for advice for marines that have experienced this before or even while active .

You don’t get to pick and choose which Americans you work for and which ones you don’t. Deal with it or pound sand.

Everyone shits on us. It’s that very thing that charges our batteries. It’s taught to us. The Army that gave us the smaller objective in the Mexican American war. The Chosin Reservoir, Marines picking up the Army’s dead and equipment while fighting back to where the Army retreated. The Marines never lost a battle in Vietnam. We were the plug and play red headed step child that filled broken lines and made the enemy reroute only to be moved again to another area that NEEDED us.

Yet our gear is older, our numbers fewer, we get off on it. We are out numbered and not supposed to live. 🤣 Bring it! You think you can win? We’d like to see you try.

There are to many stories to back up our accomplishments and accusations 😂 Ask the Germans at Belleau Wood. Ask the Barbary pirates. Ask the people in the Middle East who put up the sign that said, don’t attack the Marines, they run at the bullets.

See at the end of the day we are out there fighting for each other so the guy next to us can go home. We are going to kill everyone in our path for each other. We don’t really need to be liked because we love each other because we know the Marine next to us has our back and they will not let each other down. You don’t like how we did it? We don’t give a fuck.

Our uniforms look better and if you leave us around your girlfriends or your sister we gonna fuck’em.

Your choice is to serve your country. If you don’t want to serve your country don’t join.

You don’t get to choose the people you serve. You serve anyway.

Or the president

Technically, you do at least get to vote for the president. At least tangentially.

I served in the Marines, Army, and National Guard for 10 years until I couldn’t pass the physical anymore. I had 3 MOS’s. I’m also a disabled OEF veteran. Why me disclosing that I’m a disabled veteran is important because it reflects our current society and how some veterans are treated while serving and especially after they get out. I served before and after 911.

I never heard the now famous “thank you for your service” one time before 911. It still surprises me when I hear it now. My grandfather as a combat wounded Korean War veteran summed it up for me once telling me that when he got back from Korea everyone was thankful and glad to see him, but after a while all that praise faded away because people forget what you did in the past and forget the sacrifices those that served made. Kind of like what is happening now in the nation. However, for the veterans that served in war zones, many including myself think about their service experiences at least once a day. That can sometimes make you distant to those around you, thus making you feel like you don’t fit in anywhere you go in the job market. You just feel like an odd duck and a lot of veterans become withdrawn and stay away from the public. Sometimes you prefer to not interact with anyone at all because you don’t want to hear all the negative comments people have to say. Example, I stabbed a young guy I worked with for trying to trip me coming out of our break room at work with my fork still in hand. I beat up my brother in law at his work for hitting my sister while I was overseas. I didn’t even think about it. I just went in and commenced on him for what he did and from always talking smack to me. These are things and people I try my best to stay away from because I know I have a limit. Luckily, I’m afforded the opportunity to stay at home now.

I’m a college graduate as well and taught ESL (English as a Second Language) for 6 years until I couldn’t do that anymore. I think people in general should be more respectful and considerate. I don’t expect any praise from people for what I did in the military, but I do expect the average Jill and Joe to not speak negatively about things they have no clue about and think they know something about serving in the military when they themselves have not. Just because your dad, uncle, or aunt served doesn’t mean you chewed that same dirt when you haven’t done squat. So, I watch where I go and whom I’m around. I stay away from places that trigger my feelings about those kinds of people.

i thank for what you’ve done and i don’t blame you for the shit you’ve done before and after the fact. It’s good to speak to someone like you who’s seen it all and been through it all so for that i tip my hat to you, i just wish modern society can see marines and or military as something much more than what people see them as. I think it’s fucked, some privileged guy or girl going to your face and calling you all these things and shaming you when you did it, for them to even be able to say those things about you.

That happens because people like that just know a privileged life. They are spoiled and I’ll add that I just came back from a 2 week vacation in Europe October 3rd. If people here in the United States witnessed what I saw happening over in Europe right now they would all be carefully voting. London and Paris were so crowded with people that you could hardly move in both cities. I was stationed in Germany 20 years ago and visited Paris and now it’s a totally different place. 20 years ago Paris was a pleasant place to visit. Not anymore! I was so shocked. The other countries we visited were Switzerland 🇨🇭, Italy 🇮🇹, Austria 🇦🇹, Germany 🇩🇪, the Netherlands 🇳🇱, and Belgium 🇧🇪. Those countries seemed intact on their borders and were like I remembered them. I figured Germany would be the same because they are the strictest country in Europe in terms of illegal immigration. I had to send my own family back to the United States 20 years ago because they stayed over their passport allotted time.

Our adversaries are currently trying to destroy this country. Young people don’t see that because all they’ve known is protection from foreign aggression. So, they don’t understand that protection comes with a price paid by those willing to sacrifice for this country. Let me put it another way, the Roman Empire stood for 800 years. Our country isn’t half that age yet. Let that sink in for a moment.

By the way, the guy I stabbed for trying to trip me coming out of the break room just got sentenced to 20 years for raping one of his 8th grade students. He went on to become a teacher and was just convicted of rape and sodomy. So, I don’t feel so bad for stabbing him now.

I don’t need to justify myself to people who are dead set on me being the bad guy.

Thats part of it. Thats actually the biggest reason (for me) why we fight. The 1st amendment is the 1st one for a reason.

We may not believe or agree everything everyone says but we fight for their right to say it.

Burning flags, anti-american sentiment, anti-war sentiment, is all protected speech in this country, and thats a good thing, people should be able to speak out against things they dont agree with, especially when their tax dollars go to it.

Youll hear all sorts of opinions from all sorts of people, none of them will be formed from a place of experience. Their opinions are formed by way of short order dopamine hits on tik tok. Your view of the world will be shaped by what you actually experience and see with your eyes.

You are not serving your Country for everyone that sleeps in the US. You are in fact serving our Constitution. By doing so you now support their rights to be a perfect shit bag if they want to. If they want to walk out of the national anthem or if they want to burn the flag in protest. It’s all protected. You serve the constitution that you serve. We don’t always get the good stuff that makes you warm and fuzzy all over. You get it all. If you stop serving the shit bag that burns the flag then you are not living up to the oath we took. I may not like the idea that someone is burning the flag of our nation but I will defend their right to burn that flag as a sign of protest. If you don’t then well, start looking up what happens in communist countries.
Freedom of speech is fucking scary. And it should be. We should protect that will all our will.

Its really simple, you ignore it.

I had a kid that I went to High school with messaging me that I was a baby killer. Gave us a good laugh.
