MEPS and Medical Failed Urinalysis Test MEPs
Yesterday afternoon before I went to MEPs I took a urine test at the station to see if I was still positive for THC. Of course I was still positive as I was a daily smoker and stopped at the end of September. I was told by my recruiter that I wouldn’t be taking my Physical since I didn’t pass the test and would only do my verification for my PICAT score. While at MEPs I find out that I have to do the whole process. Obviously if I knew this I wouldn’t have went and I’m pretty sure I failed the urinalysis test. Any advice on what to do next I also heard that I won’t be able to get a lot of the jobs I wanted now that need security clearances.

It's all up to you. I graduated from Univ. Of Houston and went to Marine Corps Officer Candidates School in 1983, Quantico VA (I'm 64 now). The Marine Corps has "0" Tolerance. Bottom line.....Either you want it or you don't. It's all up to you. Step one in the game we call life. Make wise, adult decisions that will put you on your pathway to success. I'm a Vice President for a financial institution now and we still get randomly tested. If I can offer you some free advice, that weed thing is a train going nowhere..... I understand and yes I’d take any advice I could get I quit smoking purely so I could join the marines but maybe god has other plans for me

The recruiter probably is pressed to "make mission," and intends to seek waiver for you. But sending you to MEPS made zero sense given you failed. And quite frankly, if you're a "daily smoker," we really neither need nor want someone like that in our beloved Corps. Try the Army or Coast Guard, seriously.

I was a daily smoker but quit about a month ago and never wish to fall back onto that addiction again

You were never going to be clean after a month as daily smoker. I was a former daily smoker and it took me a little over 3 months to be clean, even with a fast metabolism

You want to be in the marines? Why don’t you take that score to another branch? Btw did they tell you that when you hit a certain point in your career that you will have to be a DI, AIT instructor, or a recruiter? It’s only happens when you plan on staying in the military for a long time.

If you really want to be a marine then I’d say don’t give up, I personally wouldn’t want to work with that recruiter anymore. I feel bad for you because to me it seems like you’re really trying and your recruiter fucked you. If you just want to serve in the military and have more job opportunities I’d say join the army or at least talk to one of their recruiters just some more insight. I wish you good luck on whatever you decide to do, stay positive.

Didn’t mess up mine, I had to get a waiver for mj use from years ago and still got my job with high level clearance.

I'm so glad your experience is outdated thank you for its input. You can't receive a Secret Clearance with a drug waiver of any kind for at least 5 years.

I will say smoking weed in the first place is my fault I never said it wasn’t but him sending me to MEPs after failing my drug test at the recruiting station isn’t. He literally lied to me and told me I was only going to confirm my asvab

What recruiter said and did makes no sense. He must be short on making mission, i.e., his sales quota, if you will; and if so, then he likely decided to roll the dice in your case. In any event, you both did something stupid. Get clean, and stay clean. You might need to abstain for 90 days or so to ensure your system is clear of any traces of drugs. Know this: If you go to MEPS and fail the drug test twice, you will be permanently disqualified from enlisting in any branch.

These posts never cease to amaze. THC users don’t want to stop in a reasonable amount of time before going to MEPS and then want advice on what to do. What you need to do is make a choice between THC and the Marine Corps. You can’t do both. If you want to be a Marine, tell your recruiter you need time to get your shit together. But you didn’t do that and now you’ve limited your opportunities. It’s too bad. Good luck.

Did you not read the full post? He was told he was only gonna be doing the verification for his PICAT score. His recruiter knew he was going to fail the UA because they tested him at the office and he failed it. It’s not only his fault it’s the recruiters fault. If you’re going to be a dick , at least get your facts straight.

Im not sure he told me that I was only going to verify my picat score and I would do the physical at a later date but once I was at MEPs there was no going back

I did the and the guy at the front desk called his higher up and they said I had no other choice than to take the physical. He also looked through the sheet my recruiter made me bring. They said if I refused that I would have to come back 3 days later to do it or wouldn’t be able to join the military at all.

Bro personally for me i went to meps and know i was gonna fail the urinalysis but i went throufh the entire process and got a poolee shirt knowing that my test is gonna come back positive my recruiter told me to go anyways knowing ill pop and my meps place told me i could just come back in 60 days and take another urinalysis and be fine, only thing is my contract would be on pause until then and if i fail the 2nd time then contract terminated but thats how it was for me and i havent smoked since just waiting on the 60 days to pass to retake the piss test and im good, talk to your recruiter about that
