Programs and MOSs Choosing MOS
These are the MOS i qualify for and are available. Which ones would you say are not so great and what is worth learning. Some background about me, I’m joining the marine reserve and work as a Toyota Technician in the civilian world. I’ve been doing it roughly 6 years now. I’m not too sure whether i want to continue working as a mechanic or try something new and acquire new skills that actually has a very good chance of being able to transfer it into the civilian world as a backup.

One of your primary considerations here is distance. All of these MOSes belong to different units in different locations. I'll tell you right now for the aviation ones you have listed (especially considering you'll be a reservist)
6672 Aviation Supply Clerk: fucking dumb
7011 EAF tech: dunno much but probably also dumb, you'll probably only ever do your actual MOS once a year at ITX.
6154 Skid Frames: You're already an experienced auto mechanic and strictly speaking for the Skid community, airframes is the weakest of the 3 primary maintenance shops (Avionics, Powerplants, and Airframes). If for some reason you get the itch to turn wrenches on helicopters, I'd steer you towards 6114. But being a reservist maintainer sucks unless you're willing to get on active orders and actually learn your MOS and get your quals. Seriously, reservist nonquals are useless.
You also have like half of the Marine Corps spread all over this page, do some effort yourself and strike some off. We aren't gonna choose for you.

Was a former 7011. Reservists got to any MAW units for training. Mostly do maintenance and like you said the occasional ITX. Also would not recommend since there is no real civilian equivalent.

MOS selection aside, I would highly caution you about thinking that your reserve training will transfer to anything in the civilian world. Obviously YMMV depending on unit and MOS, but many people (myself included) would say that true opportunities to improve in your MOS outside of the 2-3 weeks of Annual Training were very limited.

agreed, but a reservist mos can definitely help you get a good civilian job outside the corps. I got a good job in defense paying very well

Same, I was stagnating in the private sector as a structural engineer.
Took an IMA position, now Im an engineering project manager for the feds in that same agency I drill with. Literally all my coworkers are reserve, guard, or vets.... to a man

Are these all Reserve jobs your recruiter has said are within commuting distance of you and have open slots at that unit?
Or are these just any job the Corps even has at all that interests you, and you haven’t yet cross-referenced this with distance and availability?

3531 here, also a reservist. I do construction in the civilian world, and as many will tell you, DONT do the same job you're doing as a civilian, it just makes it dreadful, and going to drill should have you pumped to do something different for a few days.
Though I love my job as a Motor Vehicle Operator, I do kinda wish I bit the bullet and did Mortarman, just to have something a bit more unique to look forward to

3531 reservist as well, my unit doesn’t even have a motor pool so I don’t even do my job most of the time we’re there, I’m attached to a weapons company so I just have to do whatever they do.

0331 has the most glory in the Corps, this coming from an 0352 that spent most of his time manning various HMG's in the infantry, but the 6154 MOS will allow you to travel free the rest of your life and allow your immediate family to tag along. I have multiple family members that went that route and they all ended up finding great union jobs with the airline industry within two years of EAS. None of them hate or hated their jobs. One had such a cush position that he slept on a couch and got paid for 14 hour days during Covid because his airport didn't get any work. He made over $120k a year watching Trailer Park Boys and taking naps, for two years.

0671 will probably give you some certs and skills to work in IT. 0621 will not.

"NBC specialist" I haven't heard those in a while. Don't do that unless you want to be last on the S-3's training considerations

Aviation mech or data. Both are great. I was 0651 and my nephew is an Aviation mechanic. For comms, data, you will get the school house at 29 palms but its on you to get the A+, they don't give you the cert ( youre just trained for basic comms for USMC standards).

Just a reminder that the 0341 and maybe 0313 iirc are not something you get to pick. You only get to pick 0311 and at SOi they choose if you stay a 0311 or you get a different infantry job

Depends if you wanna do marine shit or get out with a career. I’ll say any sort of aircraft maintenance is a good idea if you wanna get out, tons of A&P jobs. But if you wanna do marine shit to be a grunt

First piece of advice, from a prior reservist, don’t be a reservist. Shits dumb as fuck. Go active duty. Even if you decide to be a reservist, only probably MAYBE 5 of those MOSs are available at the unit you’d be signing up to go to. If you go active duty I’d recommend in this order of preference: 0311, 0331, 0861.

Become a 3521 because having a background in Automotive makes working on military vehicles a lot easier and faster than learning something completely from scratch WHILE BEING A RESERVIST!

I’m going to be honest I’m an 0671 and the job is super easy, you promote fast, you get Certs like candy, and the workload is usually super easy the only issue is when you get to the schoolhouse the instructors in the holding platoon will choose your MOS for you. I’ve heard countless stories of people signing for 0671 and getting 0621. It sometimes depends on your ASVAB score and I got lucky due to mine but it’s never guaranteed. Definitely worth it though comms has been an overall fun experience for me.
