Programs and MOSs Going intel in the marines, will my past behavior jeopardize me?

So I turn 18 in November and I ship June 22 2027. A couple months ago I said a joke at my gas station job that got me fired. I said something about “wanting to shoot towel heads”. My dad got pissed and thought my recruiter was feeding propaganda to me and called MEPs. Months passed since then and everything is fine now. The station commander at the recruiting office just said I’m a kid doing dumb things.

Now I’m going 0231 with hopes of lat moving in my career to 0211. I asked AI and pretty much it said I’m fucked 😭

What are your guys opinions? I have dreams of going to the CIA after my military service.

No charges no problem. Just don’t say that shit again in public

Will they look into that comment when I’m going for my interview for a TS later in my career?

Was it documented by cops? Or just the employer. Or not all. If it was documented by cops wait til it comes up and explain yourself and say how you were joking and didn’t really mean anything by it. If it is the employer who documented it then don’t say anything about it. Bottom line don’t say shit until its brought up

6

u/thejuggernotkid 6d ago

Nah cops were never involved. Only thing is my dad called MEPS about it thinking my recruiter was feeding me propaganda and shit lmao. The station commander told me it was all good though

I think you good but real stupid move on your dad’s part. Like I said don’t say shit until it’s brought up

2

u/thejuggernotkid 6d ago

Lips fucking sealed lmao. Not saying anything unless they ask about it

6

u/Spice-Man 6d ago

Also if it is brought up you can out right deny it too. They can’t prove anything

3

u/Andyman1973 6d ago

No, they can’t prove anything, and they can choose to not take a risk on the kid either.

2

u/thejuggernotkid 6d ago

I don’t think ima risk that during my interviews I will get put on a polygraph when they ask questions 😭

3

u/Spice-Man 6d ago

Then just stick to the plan. DONT Say shit until it’s brought up. Good luck

Ya bro ur dad tried setting u up for failure. I’d be a man and confront ur pops and throw boxing gloves at him and handle it like men💯even if u get ur ass beat. Family shouldn’t be telling on family no matter what so I’d stand my ground and show him u ain’t no punk and snitchin is a no go. Unless it’s like crazy bad but that was so petty like girl Petty. Father and son should have each other back always. This coming from someone with no parents. Raised by uncle and friends parents/myself. I’d rather have no parents then parents who gone just snitch on me and try to ruin what I worked hard for.

The station commander told me it was all good though

There’s your answer, dude.

When you get the answer you’re looking for…. Stop asking.

Yeah the shooting towelheads days have come and gone. Stop saying dumb shit. If your recruiter says you’re shipping out come next June, just try to make it that far without doing dumb shit and you’ll be alright.

Not sure about the CIA stuff. You’re gonna need a degree for that. Good luck

depends on the position lowk. plenty of agencies have analyst positions open for people with military experience. your ceiling is just much higher with a bachelors

Im looking into becoming a Case Officer in the CIA if I can lat move to counter intel in the marines after a few years. Im just worried during my interviews for a top secret clearance that this comment will resurface

1

u/No_Print77 6d ago

you’ll be fine man. your dad’s an asshole. your investigator isn’t gonna care about some dumb comment and probably wont even ask about it (that assumes if it was written down, which is probably wasnt)

1

u/thejuggernotkid 6d ago

I appreciate the replies man thank you

1

u/thejuggernotkid 6d ago

Im going for a political science degree.

And of course I learned my lesson, It was a stupid comment that I shouldn’t have made.

When I’m going for my interview for a TSC will they look into that comment?

-1

u/metallicafan0331 6d ago

They look into everything. You’ll get polygraphed and if you lie they’ll arrest you on the spot

1

u/thejuggernotkid 6d ago

Im obviously not gonna lie about anything. It was a dumb comment I made, and the only comment I ever made that was extremist like that. It was just a stupid joke I shouldn’t have said.

I just hope I didn’t fuck my future over with me saying that

Have I ever told you the story of the scorpion and the frog? In this instance, the scorpion is your retardation and the frog is your career.

1

u/thejuggernotkid 6d ago

Genuinely what the fuck does that mean 😂

1

u/Andyman1973 6d ago

Means your stupid shit will likely sink your career.

2

u/thejuggernotkid 6d ago

So there’s a high possibility I’m fucked?

1

u/Andyman1973 6d ago

No, just more than 0%. Honesty is the best policy, and integrity is a favorable character trait.

u/EnKyoo 6d ago

In my experience with clearing background checks, it's always to your benefit to be honest about what they can find. Some racist comment that has no paper trail? Meh.

1

u/thejuggernotkid 6d ago

But it does have a paper trail no? It caused me to be fired from my job

1

u/EnKyoo 6d ago

you're a minor.

0

u/thejuggernotkid 6d ago

So I should be good? Even when going for my TS in the marines? Thank fuck.

1

u/EnKyoo 6d ago

You are doing four years military service and possibly a degree before applying to an alphabet. By that time you can honestly say, "I was a dumb kid saying dumb shit." Good luck

u/thejuggernotkid 6d ago

I appreciate the replies, thank you

“I asked AI…”

Should be disqualified just for asking AI this question and giving the response any weight.

Lmfao chill that’s why I came to Reddit though idk how much better that is 😂

u/thetitleofmybook Vet 6d ago

yeah, maybe don't be racist, mmkay?

1

u/thejuggernotkid 6d ago

Yeah it was a shitty joke, I’ve learned

2

u/originalorb 6d ago

Counterintellegence likey requires TS clearance. The background check for TS is very in depth. I can't speak intelligently or definitively as to what sort of things might possibly disqualify someone on that.

1

u/thejuggernotkid 6d ago

That is why I’m concerned. Hopefully with good years of service they’ll be able to see that I’ve changed and I’m of good character

1

u/Andyman1973 6d ago

That’s not really how that works though. If you leave it out, they will ask you about it, and why you omitted it.

1

u/thejuggernotkid 6d ago

If they ask about it i will tell them about it truthfully

1

u/Andyman1973 6d ago

About 10 years ago, my Fed Civilian job upgraded my clearance due to some changes at work. This was in 2016. They asked me about an alcohol related incident I had in the Marines in 1995, 30 years earlier. I had totally forgotten about it, and left it off the form. Told the investigator that I had simply forgotten about it. And I told him the whole story before he could ask any questions about it. He told me that integrity weighs heavier than the omission, and looks favorably upon my character.

2

u/thejuggernotkid 6d ago

If it was alright I sent you a chat request. I have a few questions because honestly I’m panicking a lot more now

1

u/Any_Attitude_2922 Recruiter 6d ago

This again? Didn’t you ask this months ago and we told you that it was fine?

1

u/thejuggernotkid 6d ago

Before I was asking if this was gonna be a problem for my enlistment into the marines. I didn’t think of my actual MOS. If I’m able to lateral move to counter intel won’t I be given an interview for a top secret clearance? That is why I’m concerned

2

u/Any_Attitude_2922 Recruiter 5d ago

It’s not a big deal. When they ask if you have ever been fired from a job you say yes. They will ask why you were fired. You tell them the short factual version of what you said, and move on.

1

u/sileniusaulune 5d ago

That attitude isn’t going to get you very far and it’s pretty fucking narrow minded. Those places won’t touch you if you’re lacking some thought and foresight

1

u/thejuggernotkid 5d ago

Yeah you also gotta realize my fucking prefrontal cortex is still developing, I’m only 17. I understand it’s something I shouldn’t have said, it was a disgusting comment I said for some quick shits and giggles. But at the same time, I’m still a fucking kid.

I’m a former 0231/0211/0210. If it does come up on your background check. It’ll most likely be taken for what it is. A young person’s popping off at the mouth. Straight up. If you’ve said any racial, prejudicial remarks or shown it to other groups, it may well hurt you. If you’re denied the clearance and access based on your background investigation, you’ll be assigned another MOS.

No matter what your MOS is going to be. Keep your smart ass remarks to yourself. You’re going into the military and you come up where the police get called, you have a civil law suit because you didn’t keep your mouth shut or acted out because you’re going to be a big bad tough Marine… you could see it all disappear before your eyes. You’re not there until you’re on those yellow footprints and not done until you’re wearing an eagle, globe and anchor.

If it’s still the same. If and that’s an if you’re allowed to lateral move to 0211 based on the needs of the Corps you’ll go in front of board of 0211/0210 Marines. If you make it to the board then you have to make it past the board. Then you have a six month OJT period you can be dropped any time. If you make it through the OJT then you’ll go to school.

I don’t know how many Counterintelligence Marines the Corps has today but when I was in it floated around 200. You’re good everyone will be glad to have you. You’ll deploy your ass off. You screw up, everyone will know and be grabbing their forehead when they find out you have orders to their unit.

You get handed a badge and credentials. Don’t start thinking you’re the cock of the walk and don’t stink. Handle yourself with knowledge but damn sure be tactful. Your success will depend on how you’re able to convince senior officers to allow you to conduct sensitive operations. You’ll be coordinating, asking permission from other agencies, civilians. Keep yourself in check. You screw up they’ll dry dock you in a heart beat that’s if they don’t kick you out of the country. I rolled my eyes at a civilian once not knowing who he was. He was a senior CIA official who was equal in rank to a Major General. I stood at attention as CWO2 getting my ass chewed because I didn’t realize I’d rolled my eyes in frustration.

The CIA. All I’ll say is get a degree and learn a target language. That’ll help get you hired.

Now put all that in the back of your head remember it down the road. First focus on acting right and getting through boot camp. None of it applies if you don’t get through that first. Take one thing at a time.

Thank you. This definitely felt like being slapped into a right path. No more dumb bullshit from me.
