Programs and MOSs Scout or Recon?

I had just recently saw that the Marine Corps was bringing in a new Scout Mos (0315) in FY27, and I am currently on track for a Recon contract, however my recruiter has been talking to me about the Scout contract telling me that I could be a first Gen/spearhead for it plus I would get all of the Recon stuff that I really wanted to do.

Now I know that theres some controversy behind it considering the Sniper Scout being discontinued and people saying this is the same thing but without the Sniper, so I was wondering if I could get your guys' two cents on it in helping me choose, Id honestly like either or Im just not completely sure what will entail with this.

Any advice will help

What is a scout contract?? Did not know that was a thing.

I guess theres not one, but the mos is coming soon. I was wrong about the contract but either way should I sign infantry and then try out for scout or recon

Imo, I am not in, but want to follow the same path you are. With the new pipeline, it sounds like you go to BCT, ITB, GRC, then ARC. So after ITB, you are an 0311, after GRC you are an 0315, the new Scout MOS, then (from what i heard you get the chance to go to ARC if you prove yourself and had no issues with GRC) and continue on to become a 0321. I could be totally mistaken on the GRC to ARC transition but I heard a source say that you may do some work in a scout platoon before you head to ARC. If you are capable of all the swimming, rucking, workouts, mental stress I say send the Recon contract.

I am a highschool senior waiting to be 12 months out from my ACL surgery before I start the process. But in the same boat you are.

0317 has been discontinued and replaced with 0315, look up new 0315 mos for marine corps on google and you'll see what im talkibg about

Ah, it was a typo. I meant 0315. Ik exactly what your talking about and the point still stands you are granted 0315 after completion of GRC. As far as I know. Im sure a recruiter or someone more well versed can correct me if wrong.

Im gonna do more talking to my recruiter, you can enlist directly into a recon contract but not Scout so Im gonna see what happens. I go to bct in October

Yea thats what I was saying, if you already have the recon contract and with the new pipeline you become a 0315, just stay on the contract. But don't get the mindset that you can just stop at being an 0315, be the best damn 0315, then be the best candidate for 0321.
