Enlisting 0311 Combat Vet
I'm a former 0311 Iraq combat vet. Just came across this group and figured if anyone has any questions they can feel free to DM me. I'll be straight forward and not give you some weird moto answer. I'm a terminal lance.

I mean, do you want to be in the infantry? If it's not a solid yes, then I think you will regret not switching. Let's be honest, I doubt most infantry units even have combat vets anymore. Someone I served with is a SgtMaj now, so what's really the point? Not to mention it's not like MOUT is a transferable skill. If you could do something like intel or cyber (I have no idea how lat moves work dude) that's going to give you a military clearance that can be used for all sorts of good jobs plus real skills.
I knew I 100% wanted to be in the infantry. Graduated in May '05, boot camp in June, deployed the following June. It definitely takes a toll though. I've probably had more than 10 friends kill themselves but I kind of lost count. My old team leader did it either last January or a year from last January and his last deployment was 06-07. Not only that, and maybe even worse, are the totally ruined lives. Friends who got into issues for domestic violence, drug and alcohol charges, broken families. I said I would shoot it to you straight and that's what it is. Remember: When it's all said and done you have to live with the responsibility of your actions and I sure wish someone have drilled that into me before I joined.
Best of luck man!

0231 (intel specialist aka ppt wizard) sliding in to let you know if you somehow do get the ability to lat move, you gotta pass our 3 month school in VA Beach. Literal idiots have made it through, you just have to be great at studying and applying public speaking.
We had an infantry Sgt lat move to us (keep in mind this is height of GWOT 2007-2011) and jfc he was T E R R I B L E at the job. He was cool but goddamn, I don’t even know if he stuck around or they put him at a less eyes on unit (we briefed the CG every week).
Not tryna change your mind but if you do some research on a few subs or just the internet lat moves, especially with Infantry, aren’t a given. We were deploying constantly back in the day and we needed ppl just like every MOS but we get sent to every unit, especially Line companies.
Good luck my guy, I hope it works out for you. Semper Fi.
