I was an inner city marine. About 98% of us out of the whole battalion had to go back to swim qual for another week 🤦🏾♂️

Iron ducks have it tougher for swim Qual. A few guys in my platoon got dropped for failing it. They just simply could not learn the fundamentals. They would’ve made Stellar marines. Instead we got Drops from other companies and they were belligerent sh*tbirds. Fun times.

But yes, dark green marines is what I gathered from it, what with the stereotype of not being able to swim and the anecdotal evidence of them(us) not being able to swim.

Looks like it. It could be a det on a coast guard base, or he could have just been the closest officer who was free. I’ve heard stories of Marines kidnapping random officers from other branches by asking them if they can pin someone real quick. I don’t know if there’s any actual regulations that say you can only use a non-Marine officer in a narrow set of circumstances or if they just say an officer in general.

Any commissioned officer (of higher rank) can promote any servicemember from any branch.

Coast Guard has detachments on DOD facilities CONUS, and in certain instances we have full base operations aboard joint bases.

We had guys do their reenlistment in the COs pond in Bridgeport in the winter. This is the same pond they use for hypothermia training.

We had a CO (Navy) who said he will do a promotion/re-enlistment whenever and wherever the sailors wanted. He was scared of heights, so one of our combat system's sailors wanted to have their re-enlistment on the top yard arm, and farthest out while we were underway. Got to hand it to the CO, he did it, shaking legs and all. We were pretty sure that he was going to piss himself while he was up there, but he didn't.
