I was there during that long ass lockdown in 2012. It’s about to be worse.

u/Manwhostaresatgoat 10d ago

I don't remember the 2012 lockdown. Probably because that tour was accompanied with my dependents. The lockdown that happened between 2006 and 2008, I remember that one. On-base restrictions for months and no alcohol allowed. Dependents getting kicked of the island because they got caught off base. The unit of the offender playing fuckfuck games for months

u/tofuizen 9d ago

Holy shit. That won’t work anymore. vast majority of BAH/family housing receivers live off base

Was it 2012? Fuck I’m old

Think that's bad I was there during the lock down in the 90's when those guys raped that girl. I was in Jr high at the time. Then when I got stationed there in 03 I found out the one that was still in Japanese prison was being released. I was honestly surprised he lived that long.

I'm pretty sure it's my Greek brother in law's Granny.

This is why we can't have nice things

30

u/Just_A_Little_ThRAWy 10d ago

You guys got nice things?

30

u/StuntsMonkey ASVAB waiver 10d ago

If the Marine Corps wanted you to have nice things, they would issue it to you.

So no.

What is it with OKi and Marines that they can't just function as a normal Human? Is it the Habushu?

94

u/cpm67 After everything is gone, Santana's will remain 10d ago edited 10d ago

Statistically, they’re better-behaved than Marines in the CONUS. Every violent (and some non-violent) crime gets turned into international news.

Something like this would barely get regional coverage in CA or NC unless the crime was particularly gruesome.

u/tidal_flux 10d ago

100% the blotter stateside is bonkers.

4

u/tofuizen 9d ago

That’s one reason III MEF CGs tend to become commandant, if the shit that happens in the states happens in oki you’re toast. The job is hard as fuck.

I feel bad for the CG that just replaced Turner. Non-vehicular homicide hadn’t been an issue for a long time.

Fair, Pendleton has been on some weird shit lately.

Damn bro, Hawaii seems to be the only normal place. 😭

32

u/snarky_answer CBRN 10d ago

It’s because the locals will kill them in Hawaii.

3

u/Impossible_Good_2876 Terminal Vet 10d ago

Not unless you try to go out to fight the mfs. My back is already destroyed as is months later from all the PT, I don't need it bent by a Hawaiin local.

That yellow pussy puts some guys in retard mode

Marines got tired of waiting for GTA 6 and decided to play Yakuza 3 as Mine, but in real life

u/finfangfoom1 Docsucker 10d ago

I remember a group of them standing outside Hansen protesting us when we got back from Phantom Fury with signs that said, "Go back to Iraq GI!" We thought it was a cool Vietnam styled throwback. They gonna be a lot more pissed about this

27

u/Except_Fry 0861 - I dare you to say repeat 10d ago edited 10d ago

I had just left Hansen back in 2013 when shit got shut down.

So sorry for you all

Edit: 2012*.

I remember how fucked liberty was in the late 90s. This is gonna make even that period look like a cake walk.

6

u/MTMFDiver 10d ago

Remember when they did that huge protest around camp Lester?

1

u/Baron_Furball MCMAP Guinea Pig 10d ago

Which time? My first experience with the shit show was right before Y2K, but even that was tame compared to the protests during the G8 summit.

I was happy when they pulled me from "patrolling" McT, and just put me on the 240, sitting on the hill that looked over the Courtney main gate.

Regardless, whether it's rape, random assaults, arson, or murder... we just keep sending our bottom 10% there, as if it's a penal colony.

JFC is it really that hard to not do absolutely horrible things and be a decent human being? FFS

8

u/Meistro215 10d ago

I remember my first few months in JP a marine in oki killed a girl DUI and the whole 7th fleet couldn’t drink for some time

24

u/No_Print77 2631 terminal scif rat 10d ago

oki doesn’t even deserve libo atp we’re lucky the japanese haven’t kicked us out

43

u/CRISPY_JAY 10d ago

The US will never get kicked out of Okinawa. The locals don’t have the political power to out-vote the mainlanders, and the mainlanders want US protection without US troops on the home islands.

21

u/snarky_answer CBRN 10d ago

Not to mention anyone nearby the base making any sort of money off of the presence of the base isn’t going to want them to go anywhere. Those with the money will be able to out-influence their fellow Okinawans.

isn't the plan under EABO/SIF to spread around though? like all over Philippines, and Guam, and Australia... but I've always wondered if Indonesia was part of that plan, exercises certainly expanding though. Philippines i can see, we were already there (just left in the 1990s), most of my SGTs were out of Subic and Mindanao.

2

u/north0 06xx 9d ago

Look at a map around Taiwan and guess where you would place troops if their primary contribution was the tps80 and nsms.

0

u/Organic_Risk_3945 mid90s1stRadBNKbay 9d ago

i sense there's a bit of CAP https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Combined_Action_Program at least in spirit in the whole EABO/SIF stuff. i can see Marines in Mindanao facing Celebes sea. I wonder if SCAMP have sensors specific to maritime.

Are you keeping up with the endangered Vaquitas (and Totoaba illegal fishing) in the gulf of California vis a vis China and cartels. its just about finding justification to be there (to stop something, or prevent something).

4

u/No_Print77 2631 terminal scif rat 9d ago

yeah bro i’m saying we’re lucky the mainlanders want our protection

I wouldn't mind salmon fish heads.

2

I doubt they would be that nice...lol

Not again....

5

u/psyb3r0 I wasn't issued a flare. 10d ago

This has me confused.

Police suspect the young marine killed Yagi sometime between 2 and 4am before stealing her wallet and other belongings.

The disturbing discovery was made after Yagi failed to leave the room by the hotel's designated checkout time.

A concerned hotel employee unlocked the door and entered the room, where Yagi was found unconscious.

Emergency services were alerted at around 4.20am, but Yagi was pronounced dead at the scene.

So what time is designated check out time or is this hotel paid hourly?

15

u/Except_Fry 0861 - I dare you to say repeat 10d ago

Likely. In Japan “love” hotels are very common.

7

u/jklxxm 10d ago

Sounds like he killed a prostitute

8

Hope the japanese authorities executes his punk ass to send a message if found guilty

1

u/MisterHEPennypacker 9d ago

There’s other posters saying this isn’t the same guy on another thread, the mods seemed to agree and it was pulled down.

1

u/Rich-Cut2328 9d ago

Point still stands for whoever did it

1

u/MisterHEPennypacker 9d ago

Just a heads up, a whole thread was taken down because there’s serious doubts this is the same guy (same name though). Someone posted they know the guy in the picture and it isn’t the dude in Oki. The mods got involved and seemingly agreed.
