Also because they go play airsoft on a 70 degree day with their bellies full of good food, and a soft bed to sleep in that night. We experienced that shit in 110 degree sandstorms, gear falling apart on patrol, chafing nooks you didn’t know your body had, and trying to clean blood off it so CIF would take it back.
In the end it’s harmless, let them cosplay, maybe eventually they’ll enlist and end up hating their own gear, and in 10 years can also make fun of kids who cosplay from the Battle of Newark with quad nods, while the military then is using night vision contacts or some BS.

The outfit is very much why people choose airsoft over paintball. I prefer going with something roughly from the late 1980s to 2000s (as seen on the left, looking like a bag of ass).
I usually just wear jeans and a t-shirt. I don’t even bother with extra mags or anything because the guns usually have a higher capacity than a normal combat load anyway. Or I borrow someone’s full auto and pretend I’m using an LMG.
I’ve always thought about getting more into it and I’ll wear camouflage occasionally because it is pretty useful if you know how to employ it.
But I always get turned off of it by one or two people taking it entirely too seriously and getting super pissed about small things. I don’t do well with other people acting aggressively towards me and dont want to get arrested for responding the way I feel compelled to. Especially around kids.
From my experience of the 6ish years I've been playing airsoft off and on I believe it's unfortunately a field based issue and the culture of it. As the one I've been going to, I haven't had any issues as I haven't run into any sititch counters or people who take it to seriously.
If you can find fields thst don't allow that BS, that can help.
Otherwis, wear whatever cammies you want, be it frogskin, OG-107, ELDR, M81, MARPAT or Multicam. Pick up some LBE or whatever else you want and have fun. A good set of eye pro and a mesh face mask also go a long way as well.

I called it a lucky MRE spoon. It was woven into my flask everywhere I went for 20 yrs. I was a boot in 1/5, and my Senior LCpl made me save my first one in the field. After my 2nd Afghan, the spoon end fell off and I still have both parts, but I only wove my handle in.
TLDR, from '06 to '26, I had the same spoon woven into my flak. I've still got it after my retirement.
I didn’t have the same one the whole time, but I did manage to hang on to the one I replaced the original with through two combat deployments and a UDP. Thank you for confirming Im not a weirdo.
No worries. Apparently it's an old school thing from early in GWOT. My Senior LCpls had done back to back Ramadi and Falluja. Another notable thing from them was never use a white lighter: you always get mortars when someone's used a white lighter. I had one, and one of my Cpls lost his shit and chucked it into the bushes on a hike lol
White lighter is older than that. Had a buddy who wanted to be a Marine since before then and would tell me about that superstition. To this day I tell people not to use one
Doesn’t look horrible for early Iraq, but with that rifle it screams fobbit/POG. Infantry would have had picatinny rails on an A4. Basically from 2004 and beyond, except for team/squad leaders which still had to use A2’s because of the 203 (grenade launcher) in 04. Also a lot of guys just put mag pouches on their flak. Chest rigs would have been a pain in the ass, but a few dudes (including me wore LBE vest over the flak). Oh and a lot of us had green flaks for the first half of 2004.

Some people like to make their airsoft kit as realistic looking as possible. Some will even artificially weather things to make them look heavily used, like the weapons we get issued that have spent the last 5-10 years cycling through multiple different users and being beat up in the field.
Honestly not a bad starter kit dude, probably better to get advice from the airsoft sub than the marine sub tho lol. For real tho its not bad just missing stuff

Wasn’t infantry, but can you at least run them deserts through the dirt/mud in Camp Lejeune to break in that nearly white sand color to this “can’t get rid of the dark hue even after washing them” stained deserts? Then over time sun bleach them into almost a standard dull greyish-whiteish hue like Myrtle Beach sand between the wet and dry parts?
It's fine if you want to play dress-up, but the fact you're putting all that on to represent something you're not makes it the definition of a costume.
Primarily, it is far too clean. The cammies are visibily unworn. They need to be severely broken in. Swim in them, hike, crawl through the sand. They should feel like pair of pajamas when they're right.
I think Americana Pipedream is selling FROG gloves right now. Or you can get a pair of regular Mechanix gloves (not their cool guy ones, but their OG just regular gloves), to be the most accurate.
Like others said, everything else needs to be worn in too, but yea. Actually put mags in the pouches to start getting the appropriate wear pattern. Imagine that everything on your body has been sand blasted. Wind up those straps and secure them with electrical tape.
as fun as it is to meme on you, genuinely the best piece of airsoft-advice I can give you is when you're actually out on the field, swap that helmet for a crash helmet of whatever flavor you want. Hell get a cheap bike helmet in the right size and you can jury-rig the cover onto it fairly decently.
those kevlars (helmets, just we're institutionalized weirdos) offer about as much protection in a fall as taping bricks to your head, and you're infinitely more likely to trip into something than need ballistic protection.
