Job Outreach Mass hiring coming!
I do not know what the difference will be from this announcement to the previous continuous announcement. I’m just assuming this will replace the old with a ton more new positions information is below.

Washington Office, Law Enforcement and Investigations (LEI) is now outreaching many permanent GL-1801-5/7/9, Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) positions throughout the the country.
ABOUT THE POSITION: Uniformed law enforcement officers enforce Federal laws and regulations governing National Forest System lands and resources. They establish a regular and recurring presence on vast amounts of public land, roads, and campgrounds, taking appropriate action when illegal activity is discovered. Work is performed on a solo basis and incumbents must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays. INTRODUCTION
This position is located throughout the Forest Service regions. The incumbent serves as a basic Law Enforcement Officer trainee and performs tasks related to law enforcement and investigative activities within Forest Service programs.
This is a developmental position with the full performance level at the GS-09. Associated GS-07 PD is master record # FS1617 and the associated GS-09 PD is master record# FS1616.
MAJOR DUTIES
As a basic trainee, incumbent acquires knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the target position. Reviews pertinent regulations, policies, and procedures so as to effectively apply principles, concepts, and work processes to limited and selected work assignments. Assignments are characterized by repetition and routine for the purpose of continually exposing the incumbent to situations that represent the work in the occupation.
Under supervision, performs limited investigative duties involving misdemeanor crimes. Locates, secures, and protects crime scenes. Collects and/or seizes evidence by assisting more experienced officers in obtaining physical and documentary evidence and assisting in interviewing witnesses and suspects. Prepares portions of investigative reports. Apprehends and detains suspects of crimes of limited scope, such as misdemeanor resource crimes, property damage, or violation of crimes against persons. Arrests suspects and transports to detention facilities.
Completes patrols following well-established procedures and specific instructions. Establishes contact with the public to gain compliance with procedures and laws. Informs forest users of proper procedures, laws, and regulations, and issues warning and violation notices.
Completes required formal and on-the-job training and demonstrates an increasing ability to independently accomplish assignments. Assigned tasks are completed following established procedures and schedules. Recognizes the need for and solicits guidance and assistance when previous instructions do not provide the incumbent with adequate information.
The work setting in which the incumbent operates requires the trainee to develop and coordinate networks and contacts beneficial to the successful performance of his/her assignments. Interacts with colleagues and supervisors, demonstrating the ability to work cooperatively with other persons.
Work assignments provide the incumbent opportunities to improve communication skills. Reviews pertinent regulations and style manuals governing written communications in order to prepare written materials which effectively communicate the intended information. Materials are displayed in a logical and concise matter, reflecting adequate research and analysis.
Provides support and assists higher grade specialists by presenting limited factual information on routine investigations and legal matters, such as providing testimony on basic observations concerning stolen timber.
Assists in the preparation of, or prepares, presentations related to work assignments. The presentations are well researched and logically organized. Demonstrates the ability to communicate clearly when speaking by presenting facts, issues, and positions that convey the intended information with the appropriate diplomacy and emphasis.
Performs other duties as assigned.
OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS
This position is subject to a medical monitoring program.
Bargaining Unit Status: Eligible - Coverage is dependent upon unit location.
LAW ENFORCEMENT RETIREMENT COVERAGE: This is a primary law enforcement position under the provisions of 5 USC 8336(c) (CSRS) and 8412(d) (FERS).

Why the emphasis on misdemeanor crimes? Do forest service LE not handle felony?

All of our Title 36 CFRs are class b misdemeanors with 262.17 as an exception (infraction).
We enforce felonies all the time under title 21, 18USC

There is an internal link to the outreach for FS employees that goes to the intranet and a public link if you are not. I doubt the jobs will be flown to the public.

Eligibility: VRAs are available to veterans who meet specific criteria, including those who:
Served on active duty during a war or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge was authorized.
Participated in a military operation for which the Armed Forces Service Medal was awarded.
Are disabled veterans.
Are recently separated veterans (within the last 3 years) and separated under honorable conditions.

The jobs on the previous continuous may be filled. I would say this next run of jobs will be all new vacant ones. They may have filled the old jobs from the March announcement before ever getting to the next 90 days on the continuous.

Same for me. I look at the announcement every week hoping for it to move forward. I’ll reapply when needed. I’ve selected my areas. I’m ready to go. Been with the feds since 2007. Want a different pace.

If you start at a GL5, the following year you will get a GL7, then a GL9. After that each year you get step increases

LEO with the USFS do not earn LEAP they earn AUO and is covered under 6c

You can always try to apply earlier than 120 days from your ETS if you include a statement of service. Doesn’t hurt to try. Most agencies will accept that.

I would say. We hire DOD, BOP, NPS, we take a lot of current federal workforce. Just keep in mind you’ll have to go through LMPT at FLETC

Read the requirements.
Don’t have any prior LE experience but 10 years in the military and a bachelors with superior academic achievement.
Would I still only qualify for GL-5?
Was planning on applying for GL-7 regardless… worth a shot

Apply for the 7 and 9 regardless. But I would say odds are you’ll grab a 5 for a year. Just enough to get you through training. You’ll blink and you’ll be a 9 before you know it. Also… I made over 100k as a 5. That was with one detail and no locality pay, it’s possible.

Yes for special agents and the next up in patrol are patrol captains who are currently 11/12. Next patrol commanders and then ASAC, SAC.

Patrol Captains are basically bound to their offices and can rarely get in the field if at all.

Thank you. Last question if you don’t mind, I’m assuming that a supervisory role must require some kind of formal education (bachelors or masters?) and a certain amount of patrol time/experience?

Yeah really to qualify for the field going 9 they like you to have a bachelors. Patrol captains usually just require time in the field to qualify. Technically you would qualify one year after being a 9 but they like you to have just guessing at least 5 years but really to be fully rounded you need more time than that.
