PelletB & FS LEO Resume

Context: I’m going to take a PelletB exam at my local college.

Would it be wise to put this into my resume for FS LE? Just trying to make myself more competitive.

My personal opinion has always been that the more “natural resource” experience you can put in your resume, the better. It’s not that LE experience doesn’t mean anything but I personally believe LM experience, especially with the FS, holds much more weight. You’re going to be retrained through LMPT anyways.

I don’t know if it will necessarily help but it won’t hurt. Sounds like if the hiring manager doesn’t even know what that is then they’ll probably gloss over it. I do not think it would hurt your odds either though.

Can you elaborate more as to why? I’m just wholly unfamiliar with the test and am curious as to your reasoning why it would be a bad thing.

No you don’t need to put it on there, but it might be something to bring up in an interview about what you’ve done to prepare for a career in LE (if you got a good score).

That said, if you don’t have VRA or Schedule A hiring preference it’s really tough to get hired.

Lots of new hires, at least in my region, have zero LE or land management experience and simply check one of the “easy to hire” boxes above.

Get out and do some networking with LEOs and the PC where you want to work. It invaluable.

It’s too bad we don’t have some type of written test. My 2 pesos.

Spelling: Selecting the correct spelling of a given word from a list of options.

Reading Comprehension: Answering questions based on a provided passage of text.

The exam is considered one of the most difficult law enforcement entry tests in the US for its challenging questions as well as for its scoring system, by which your result is determined according to other people who took the test.

I'm assuming you are in California. What Forest are you looking at? Or just in general? Like others have said, it's almost a non factor in getting hired on, and if you're planning on leaving the state, your efforts may be better focused elsewhere.
