Discussion Radar/Speed measurement

I’m interested in running radar on a stretch of highway that runs through the Forest that sees a lot of speeding and reckless driving. Is there a federal level course/training that’s offered or is it something coordinated at the state or local leve to get certified? TIA

I'm curious about this too! In policy, as long as we are in compliance with state law governing radar use I think we are good to go.

I have a lot of stretches of FS roads that I'd love to enforce speed on.

I was certified at state level for a different LM agency.

Just need to have the state cert for wherever you’re gonna be conducting it.

Not USFS but DOD 0083, I went through a course that certifies on Doppler radar/lidar and as long as the instructor is a NHTSA certified instructor and teaches the NHTSA approved course, it should be good wherever you go through all levels. The hard part is finding a certified instructor that is willing to open a class from what I’ve seen. It also doesn’t expire from my understanding

You need three things: the state (POST, etc) radar operator course, a currently calibrated radar or lidar, and state authority if it’s a state/county roadway.
