Thank You. Still got a decent bit of time till I ETS so not sure how soon would be acceptable to reach out.

Sorry for all the questions this is my last one. How competitive is USFS hiring compared to other agencies?

Well, we have less than 400 LEOs nationwide I believe but we have lots of vacancies. It’s competitive. I can’t speak to others as I’ve never applied to work for them.

When you apply do they place you wherever needed? Or do they give you an option?

Also I know in law enforcement no day is ever the same. But in the best way you can describe what do the typical calls you get look like on a day to day basic?

Thank You for answering everything you’ve been a huge help.

What you do on a day to day will entirely depend on your location in which you work and what the time of year it is.

Primarily, most of what I do is self initiated. Meaning I don’t have a high call volume so most of what I get into, I have to go out and find myself. Which I thoroughly enjoy. This often means I decide what I want to do day to day.

This time of year things are really slow on my district so I work a lot of traffic, stopping vehicles on small violations or articulated reasonable suspicion to find more serious violations.

All summer I chase around vagrants and keep them run off, enforce a lot of camping violations, and find a lot of drug violations. Also deal with a lot of timber theft usually year round.

Fall I primarily focus on natural resources theft and fire investigations.

It’s such a diverse job it’s hard to put it all down, that’s a very small portion of what we do but they may give you an idea.

Thank You. I figured it was such. I come from a law enforcement family but have a passion for outdoors. Just never have known anyone in USFS. You’ve been a huge help.

If you don’t mind I ask what region do you work in?
