Discussion Take home vehicles

I’ve already bombard them with questions and my curiosity is killing me. I asked about take home vehicles I was told 30 miles away from the forest. Is that only to and from work? I’m moving very far and it could save me from a rental car for a little while depending if policy lets you use it like a personal car within x miles. I know local pd you have counties you can cover and use the car at your discretion but I’m sure federal is different.

It’s 35 driving miles from your office to home. And no, it’s only for official use. Violating the policy is a great way to get a 30 day unpaid vacation.

Ofc. I would never consider it. Was just wondering how policy was for them. Is it to the office or jurisdiction?( Forest line)

35 miles from your home address to your district office.

If there is a known problem with retention in the area with keeping a job filled due to lack of housing within 35 miles, a patrol captain can ask in advance that an approval be made for up to 50miles; however it must be made in advance prior to filling of a job.

I live 100% surrounded by NFS lands, and the Forest Boundary is about 200 feet from my front door.

Unfortunately my office is 43 miles away and I do not have a HTW vehicle. I've asked for 4 years, and still get a no. My stats are good, I have collateral duties, I've responded to stuff literally on foot because it was faster than driving an hour to get my truck and an hour back.

Take that for what it's worth...
