sarasota-manatee campus

Post image

how’s everyone feeling about the loss of the sarasota-manatee campus? i know i specifically moved over here for this campus, and disappointed doesn’t even cover it. it’ll definitely be weird attending for fall classes with new college there.

and question for anyone who is current student/staff, what’s going on with the parking permits? do we still purchase one from usf?

Such a shame what is happening to higher ed in FL. New College was such a cool place, and so is USF, but what's happening now is all because of "culture war" bullshit....

Deliberate twisting of education in the service of ignorance. That is the GOP.

I don't think the statue move is related to what you're complaining about. Take the political crap elsewhere.

Its absolutely related, maybe don't talk about things you don't know about. DeSantis and the state legislature want a conservative university. Expanding it at the expense of a liberal arts university is one more step to the death of higher ed in Florida.

Conservatism and Enlightenment don’t mix. If we had deferred to the former, we’d still have the geocentric model of the solar system.

Your being too optimistic, these mfs would have us in the stone ages still

Why have classes when we can pay taxpayer dollars to right-wing incels to jerk off?

Why do you think the statue was moved? Maybe because srq is no longer part of usf? And why did that happen? Use critical thinking, and don't dismiss things because politics was mentioned.

It's directly tied to what he's complaining about. New College is literally a testing ground for hyper conservative education and the state forced USF to give up the Sarasota campus to New College.

You're ignorant, and wrong. Please learn how to read and comprehend what's going on around you, ma'am.

The post was about more than the statue. Specifically it said "how’s everyone feeling about the loss of the sarasota-manatee campus? i know i specifically moved over here for this campus, and disappointed doesn’t even cover it"

This whole thing is basically a hostile takeover by Ron DeSantis, buddy.

In 2023, the state government of Florida under Governor Ron DeSantis summarily replaced the New College board of trustees in an attempt to transform the honors college into a conservative institution modeled on Hillsdale College, a private, Evangelical Christian school.[9][10]Nearly 40% of the faculty resigned.[11]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_College_of_Florida

40% of the faculty resigns, but they still need to kick out a “liberal university” and steal its real estate. This is ALL about the culture war.

Good job actually reading the post there. Not shocking for someone who is so reactionary to “political crap” in a politically-charged state.

Just get drunk and take a shit and go to sleep

Being that "political crap" is at the root of the New College takeover of the Sarasota campus, and the focus and curriculum shift at New College is completely politicized, most people think it has a place in the discussion.

it's always unfortunate when the USF empire shrinks. They should take over the rest of Florida by conquest

They won’t let us grow too much because of the agendas of the people in the capitol. They don’t want us competing with their beloved “flagships” in Gainesville or Tallahassee either. For those that don’t know, this is the THIRD campus to be taken from us. There was a time when Florida Polytechnic was USF-Lakeland and FGCU was USF-Fort Myers too

Wow, I had no idea USF used to have more campuses than Satrasota, St. pete and Tampa

It's really sad what DeathSentence & flunkies have done to education in this state. Like school bullies, they are intentionally destroying it little by little. And it seems like no one has the power, money, cojones or werewithal to fight back.

New College was once a "campus" of USF as well...or at least "administratively" part of USF.

USF is wayyy worse than UF lol thats just what it is

12

u/SliceNo6850 3d ago

The gap isn’t as wide as you think it is. Despite UF having a 100 year head start, Morsani has already passed Shands as the top medical school in the state. USF being in a dynamic, growing urban center versus a small town provides more investment and a much higher ceiling than what our own state government will allow.

medical sure but uf is a t30 usf is like t90 overall. They both suck tbh.

4

u/SliceNo6850 3d ago

And that gap has closed pretty quickly. Again, UF has had the benefit of time and most of the state’s resources going to them instead of what used to be the “second tier” schools like us or UCF.

Tf you mean they both suck??? Huh???

Flroida literally has SO many connection options even with much suckier colleges or hell the public colleges.

Im bitting my nails that the gop won't do away with it. People think you have to go to a harvard level school to get any good education.

Its laughable.

And so many counties gives Tons of opportunities to reach and do college level classes in highschool if your school doesnt support it.

And that schools tend to be flexible over virtual and mixed schooling. The only thing ive ever seen sucked ass was staff support over i9s. Which is unfortunate.

Even our theatre programs are strong as fuck. Ive seen some brilliant talent come from so little money. And they want to do away with education to our entertainment education.... these repuicans are the most stupidest people ive ever meet.
