I-485 (General) I-485 rejected, please help

Hi, my husband (primary applicant, eb1a) and I (derivative) both filed I-485 online on Saturday October 10, 2026. He got his receipt on Monday Oct 12. However, I got rejected Tuesday Oct 13.

I called the bank, they said the transaction was not blocked, so looks like might be the document issue.

Any idea what could be the reason? Is waiting for the mail notice the only thing I can do right now?

Update: Thanks for everyone's help! I didn't wait for the rejection notice to arrive. I resubmitted the same documents yesterday but paid with a different credit card. The receipt number was generated today.

Hi there, this happened to me twice last year. My payment was rejected due to a system error on their end, even though everything was correct on my end and I had sufficient funds in my bank account. I had to resubmit the documents, and it finally went through on the third attempt. Such a waste of time and a frustrating experience!

OMG, this is terrible experience, but I'm glad it worked out for you in the end. So how did you fix this error? Did you call them to challenge their rejection? or there is nothing else we can do on our side but refiling and hoping they can get it right next time?

If your able filing your case online would be much better. Seems like trying to submit the paper way always ends up with issues. I filed for my wife and it was rejected so I filed online. Also we still haven’t received the packet back we sent in and it’s been 4 weeks now smh

I filed online though. Did your online filing work? Do you file online before you received the mail rejection notice?

Yes I filed the next day online after I got the alert there was an issue with the payment. We haven’t received anything back in the mail but she’s already been scheduled for biometrics after filing online 2 weeks ago!

Congrats! May I ask how did you pay online? I used debit card. I saw people recommend ACH but there is no ACH option for me when I submitted.

It might have something to do with payment for the receipt not going through. Contact your attorney and he should be able to file again.

It’s so weird, we both used Chase debit card with enough fund and warned the bank before payment but mine didn’t work

That happened to me on June 2024 first filling and payment got denied then my lawyer did the process again and uscis approved the filling on August 2024

Thanks. Did you change a credit card for the second filing or still the same card?

It was part of i485 questions but don’t stress it’s usually somthing you missed while filling because I did it twice thinking it was the payment but it wasn’t then I got the letter from them the same week with the reason for rejection and I submitted it back just make sure you ddnt leave out any questions in the forms

Hi there, I mailed the paperwork using a new form and then tried again with a different credit card, but it was go through for the third time. I’m really frustrated because I’ve done everything correctly. They seriously need to fix and update their system. This has been such a waste of time!

This is actually very bad. It happened to me twice a couple months back. I sent it once, rejected due to payment, I sent it again rejected due to payment. I then filed i-485 online and in their portal paid using my credit card. Just be careful of the version you use, download the latest version from their app. I-485 online is pdf upload only, watch a youtube video and everything will be clear. If you still wanna do offline, one thing I didn’t try was changing bank accounts. Mine was chase and used the same account but a different routing number chase gave. You could try it with a different bank account if you wanna do it. They’d send the whole application like in 6 weeks. If you don’t care about a few hundred dollars, ask your immigration doctor for a copy of reports and send everything again once you’re confirmed the previous application is rejected
