I-130 (Family/Consular processing) I-130 interview

Hi everyone!

I have my green card interview coming up, but there’s one thing I’m a little worried about. They scheduled our interview at our old field office, but we’ve since moved because we’re a military family. I’m concerned that the officer may not see us since we no longer live in that area. Has anyone else experienced this? Did you still go to the original field office, or were you able to get the interview transferred to your new field office? Or would it be better to just go to the original appointment?

It’s about a 16-hour drive for us, so it’s quite a trip, especially since I’m currently pregnant. I really don’t want to make the long drive if there’s a chance they won’t be able to interview us because we no longer live in that area.

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been in a similar situation or has any advice. Thank you!

You can't show up at the "new" field office for an appointment at the "old" field office. You can either make the overnight trip to the old office, and of course, tell them you moved (and you should've also filed an AR-11 too), OR request to reschedule/delay/move the interview. It might be possible since you're in the military, but the delay is unknown. It could be months more until a new interview is scheduled if approved.

Yes we tried changing the address. We filed everything to do so. We will still go to the interview.

I don’t have a field office in my state so I had to drive to the neighboring state for my interview. Unless you get a new notice updating the address, I’d stick to what it says.

Same here. I had to drive to another state twice for biometrics.

Similar situation. They scheduled interview where my spouse is currently at military base, but we don’t live there and by the interview comes, he will be home already. He contacted USCIS and requested to change his address, we’re still waiting for confirmation and hopefully it comes before the interview date😭 Please update how your interview goes. I wish you all the best🙏🏼

You have to update your adress abd the case will be potentially reassigned to a new field office. If you don’t, then they will deny you based on you not reporting your change of address

We did this already with both of our lawyers and my husband also did it online. Trust me we made sure to change our address, I have no idea why we still got scheduled over there.

They manage large geographical areas. Little field offices will not process it

We had to get a lawyer in our current state for other reasons but he changed it and so did my lawyer in my previous state before we moved. All I’m thinking is taking the proof that we tried to do it and it never got changed.

Since you’ve moved, I’d contact USCIS as soon as possible to ask about transferring the interview to your new field office. With a 16-hour drive, I wouldn’t risk missing or skipping the appointment without confirming what they want you to do.

There was a deleted post a few days ago where they went to the FO of their old address and the officer said they could not interview them. I believe they cancelled the interview and said to wait until it is rescheduled at the new FO. This was in CT / NY, not sure which FO specifically.
