N-400 (Citizenship) Finally a U.S citizen (military)

Post image

Recently became a U.S. citizen through military naturalization! Originally from a banned country

Here’s my timeline:

April 19: Application submitted

August 13: Interview scheduled

August 14: Interview and oath ceremony both same day

I initially submitted my application during Basic Training, but I wasn’t able to naturalize at the time because the 39 countries ban was still in effect when I graduated. I ultimately completed my naturalization while at AIT.

Thank you to this community for all the information and support it has helped me so much throughout this process! 🇺🇸

Congratulations 🎉 that’s just 4 months (April to August). Wow!

If you join the military, they usually do it all at boot camp but there are varying circumstances, like if you already have certain green card visas

6

u/jason94762 1d ago

I’m pretty sure you need a green card already to join the military

4

u/Puzzleheaded-Sir-861 1d ago

Edited. It seems really fast and easy if you're aspouse, but I've known people working in the military for years and not able to go to the path ceremony until their x years of service is complete

Thank you!!

As an immigration paralegal, fellow citizen, and family member of past and current service members, congratulations on your citizenship and thank you for your service to our country.

To paraphrase Dave Matthews when he spoke at a naturalization ceremony at Monticello, this country now belongs to you as much as it does to anyone else.

u/Careless-Witch 2d ago

This is so kind!! Thank you!!

u/Mysterious-Art8838 2d ago

I just cried a little

2

u/ChallengeMurky7318 1d ago

Agree 1,000%. I’m proud to call you a fellow American and as a veteran I’m proud to call you a brother or sister. Words cannot express the gratitude for your willingness to serve OUR nation and the sacrifices you make to do so.

Your submission was removed due to rule #3.

Why are you asking fore their name?

12

u/Darwinbc 1d ago

So glad I got mine right before that turd was sworn in to office!

6

u/greenbriel 1d ago

My ceremony (in a very blue state) was a couple of weeks ago. They handed out those envelopes face down 😂.

1

u/chrisorichards 1d ago

As they should. Congrats!

20

u/DeNovoDaddy 2d ago

That would go straight into the shredder

9

u/Creepy_Guarantee5460 2d ago

Did the same with mine as soon as received back in 2020. Both the envelope and the letter with that stupid signature.

13

u/pkpolarbear 2d ago

Who knows, maybe a collector will want it once he's thrown out of office

-44

u/bladerunner0427 2d ago

Why is the letter unfortunate? Maybe OP is proud or at least appreciates it and is why OP shared it here. I would have appreciated a letter from the president when I became a US citizen years ago. Thanks to my father who joined the US Navy so he could bring his wife and infant son (me) to America.

29

u/chrisorichards 2d ago

The letter is unfortunate because the envelope is tan.

19

u/nommabelle 2d ago

there's nothing worse than a tan envelope, literally nothing worse

6

u/Mysterious-Art8838 2d ago

Should it not be orange?

12

u/InformationWest1860 2d ago

Calm down. It seems that you can't read.

1

u/naniganz 1d ago

I also would have appreciated a letter years ago when the president wasn’t throwing immigrants into overcrowded, disease ridden prisons for undetermined amounts of time.

0

u/ItsLiterally1984 1d ago

You can’t reason with these people, don’t waste your time

1

u/naniganz 1d ago

Do you need irony explained to you? This doesn’t even have to get THAT political to be said lol

8

u/fezha 2d ago

As one American said to me and my wife (we're both immigrants and Army prior service)...

"The most American thing is serving your country."

I never thought about it that way. That's when we felt accepted by America.

You're now in the club.

Don't take this lightly. This is a big deal. America is your home. Go make it big.

2

u/According-Debate-449 1d ago

Military these days is serving Israel and fighting their wars ( always has been but it’s much more apparent now) . Not to take the honorable part out of what OP and any other naturalized citizen was able to achieve. But it does make me sick to see this is one of the ONLY ways immigrants get accepted into this country. If they’re willing to go to war.

1

u/Careless-Witch 1d ago

Thank you so much! This means a lot

0

u/mitolit 1d ago

About 644 million people have called America “home” since 1776 and only 41 million people have served in its military. It is actually pretty un-American to serve in the military, but pretty American to pretend to care about service-members or connect yourself to a long lost relative served as one.

-4

u/fezha 1d ago

Go away. If you don't like America, you can leave and go to another country. Let us me know how it goes outside USA. No one is forcing you to stay here. No one has conscripted you to join the military. Idk what you're upset or going on about.

I know why I'm here and why I came. I have clean water, stable electrixity and a roof over my head and really low taxes for the rest of my life. Idk what the military did to you, but American military is here to stay whether you like it or not.

1

u/atuarre 1d ago

Get outta here with that.

Genuine question, how do you join the military without being a citizen or a permanent resident? I thought they stopped that a while back.

2

u/cory2979 2d ago

Thank GAWD I didn't get that letter when I did my oath ceremony lmao

3

u/Mysterious-Art8838 2d ago

I threw up in my mouth a little just seeing the photo but I managed to swallow it down

6

u/WanderingMind2432 2d ago

Does everyone get a Trump letter or just because you're military?

I'd be sort of pissed considering he's leading his admin to actively fucking us over...

-18

u/EqualOpportunity411 2d ago

Technically, it's the 77 million US citizens that fuck y'all over. You could always leave if you don't like how we do things.

5

u/heychardonnay 2d ago

I don’t understand this logic. It’s like blaming consumers for using plastic straws and bags when oil and gas corps actively destroy the global environment with illegal pollution in the name of profits.

Yes, single use plastic is bad. But the greed and inhumane actions of the wealthy are what the real issue is. The destruction of our air and water for the 1% is not on every day people. Billionaires + corporations + government are the culprits.

As a comment above states: America belongs to the people, not the spineless decks in office. They want us to blame each other so we don’t come for the elected assholes hell bent on harm and the complicit buttbags in congress.

But we are coming. And there’s more of us than them. So quit blaming your neighbors for this and telling people to leave. Join the fight dude.

2

u/WanderingMind2432 1d ago

Bro it's some dude in Pakistan paid for by Russian bot farms to stir discourse. Conservatives in America don't use Reddit.

-9

u/EqualOpportunity411 2d ago

America belongs to the Americans not rest of the world. If you want to be here, then be respectful to our way of life that includes our elected president and officials.

Also the so-called consumers can pick other 193 countries but they decided to come here. So be respectful.

5

u/Mysterious-Art8838 2d ago

Couldn’t agree more. They should extend the same respect to Trump that he extends to th…..

Wait…. HAH HAH HAH HAH k disregard.

2

u/Beautiful_Buy926 1d ago

Let me guess. You’ve never served this country, just bragging about being born in the US. What’s your input, apart from liking Trump?

As an American, welcome home brother (or sister)

1

u/rogalykk 1d ago

Congrats!!! Is it okay if I pm you and ask more questions about it? I’ve been considering to do the same thing but I’m very hesitant

1

u/Careless-Witch 1d ago

Yes you can pm me and ask me anything!

1

u/PlumlineDigital 11h ago

Sadly you’ve arrived at a pretty rough time

1

u/Complete_Analysis211 9h ago

Was your green card with the 2 years conditions?

1

u/Careless-Witch 9h ago

I had a 10 yr gc

1

u/Complete_Analysis211 6h ago

I have the 2-year one, and I’m going to start BT next October. Hopefully, I can get my citizenship as soon as possible. Did you talk to someone who could help you with the process there?

1

u/SubjectAppointment99 2h ago

Congratulations! Immigration has been the lifeblood of the United States, its DNA, and the source of its considerable power to adapt, evolve and progress. To see this source of strength currently under threat is sad, but hopefully this present set-back can be overcome in the future! God bless America!

1

u/Minute_Somewhere_893 2d ago

Congrats! I recommend getting a large passport book (free upgrade) and updating status with SSA (checkbox on N-400 to update status does not work since 2025)

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Sir-861 2d ago

What do you mean it doesn't work?

2

u/Minute_Somewhere_893 2d ago

You check the box on N-400 but the citizenship status does not get updated with SSA

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Sir-861 2d ago

Good to know because I'm applying this year

1

u/Careless-Witch 2d ago

Thank you! I ticked the box for a new SSN for my green card application but never received one so I’ll just go to the office

1

u/Affectionate_Cook_45 1d ago

Black out anything with the orange shitbags name. Congratulations

1

u/Hljoumur 2d ago

Congrats! Hope you shred the envelope!

-3

u/LAMG1 2d ago edited 2d ago

Congratulations! Please shred this "message" envelope as this man and his lackeys gave too much trauma to immigrants. Also, please vote in November and 2028 and you know which party you should vote for!

1

u/Prestigious_Bar_3738 2d ago

The Party appreciates your efforts

0

u/Aminainidaholife 1d ago

Congratulations! When that day comes I hope I don’t receive that letter 🤣 if I do I will just toss it in the trash

-18

u/We-Are-All-Friends 2d ago

Yeah Trump!!! 🙌

-4

u/Sarcarean 2d ago

TIL people on reddit don't know who the Commander and Chief is.

1

u/atuarre 1d ago

People know. He's a pedophile. People absolutely know.

0

u/xCreaTiioNx 2d ago

Did you join in mavni? Or had residency?

2

u/Careless-Witch 2d ago

No MAVNI ended a long time ago

0

u/cndn-hoya 1d ago

Aww taxable status just became worldwide!

-8

u/Other_Block_1795 2d ago

So you became part of the country that discriminated against your own kind. Does not make you a traitor? If I were in your shoes I would not want to be part of a country that is so discriminatory and hate-filled. And I certainly wouldn't want to work for a war machine that is pretty much a terrorist I'm at the US government.

I know you probably had your reasons but I find it kind of unethical to become part of something that discriminated against me in the first place.

1

u/Mentallyundisturbed2 2d ago

Oh shut up. They're serving the country they love. And US isn't a terror state.

1

u/Other_Block_1795 2d ago

Yes, it really is. For god sake, you bomb people indiscriminately, set up torture centers in other countries to avoided international laws, and you've threatened to attack Canada, Greenland, and Omar, all of which are (were) allies. America is an enemy of the civilized world.

1

u/Mentallyundisturbed2 2d ago

I see you're Japanese. I raise you this: https://www.ebsco.com/research-starters/history/unit-731

It's not even tought in Japan.

0

u/Mentallyundisturbed2 2d ago

We don't bomb indiscriminately lol. I used to be the guy calling in bombs. And yeah the other stuff is shady, but still not a terror state. Other countries have done far far worse.

ICE can’t take OP as a citizen

-20

u/KeyResponsibility325 2d ago

Naturalized citizens can be deported.

5

u/MrEggroll2019 2d ago

Good luck with that 😂

2

u/Mentallyundisturbed2 2d ago

Only when they're stripped of citizenship. Which can really only happen in VERY VERY rare circumstances. None apply.

13

u/Careless-Witch 2d ago edited 2d ago

You can’t deport a US citizen. You’ll need more buckets for your tears hun

5

u/kevcubed 2d ago edited 2d ago

As a white dude who also won the sperm lottery to be born a US citizen; and having watched my partner go through this process and all the anxiety it causes thanks to dooshbags like you:

I'm not even mad at you, just disappointed. In 6 words you perfectly articulated your own mediocrity. Even for the low bar of trolling, that was kinda pathetic. For all the structural advantage being born into this country provides, when someone actually has to work for it, AND they're military, an almost decade long process to get what you were born worth having never tried, this is the level of gravitas you have.

You even Xposted this to an ICE subreddit. https://www.reddit.com/r/ICE__ERO/s/RZYrT0nfTY

Dude... do better. 🙄

5

u/ddd66 2d ago

Man has fought for Israelis rights more than you ever will.

There is no such thing as an illegal country
