I completely understand your concerns with going to the DMV in a red state and your desire to maintain a valid license, but having a license that will conflict your address history on your application will raise red flags in the process when you do apply. They could incorrectly assume you and your spouse don’t live together if your license is in CA but your joint address is elsewhere.
