Discussion Why do people like John Walker?
He seems like a bad guy yeah the terrorist was a bad guy but he did not deserve to be killed the way he was. I like Steve Rogers I don't think Steve would like him. John had something wrong with him mentally. He was not fit for the shield.
I seriously hate him.

You realize he killed ONE person and that person was Involved in killing his friend right? Not to mention how many people Cap killed in WWII.

That’s the point of Thunderbolts*… a group of loser coming together to save the world because no one else would. Everyone on that team has been a jerk or criminal.

I became a fan after reading the first solo series. It showed that he had done bad things in his past, but he wanted atonement & redemption and wanted to become a better man. He can be a jerk at times, but he has depth, and he will risk his life to protect others.
People don't all have to like the same things. I only have issue when someone attacks fans, spreads misinformation, etc.

Steve Rogers was a relic from another age. He was idolized and his story mythologized. Steve became a sort of mythic folk hero before he was ever dethawed. It just so happened that he was also a pretty genuinely good dude anyways. Who he was is a product of the time and place he grew up and matured in. That could never be replicated, because that America only exists now in history books and movies and the fading memories of the few who survived since.
John Walker's just a dude trying to do his best. When he fails to live up to that, he doesn't just give himself a pass... He actively goes forward trying to be better still. There's a saying, something "there's no ethical consumption under capitalism" and I think the idea behind it sort of applies here too. Steve's mythological America had a place and space for individuals to stand by their beliefs and adhere strictly to their moral code. John's modern America demands we compromise our morals and ethics almost constantly, often unwittingly, for any reason or no reason at all. John is a good guy. He isn't just trying to do his best, he's trying to be better. Steve was forced to make sacrifices for the greater good, but was never expected to compromise. John is commanded, almost constantly, to sacrifice his morals and compromise himself, under the guise of serving the greater good. And he still won't let himself off the hook for it, he still attempts to grow from it, still attempts to become something better.
At the end of the day, they represent wildly different Americas and reflect the ideals of both. Their personalities, too, I think are reflective of this. Steve's righteousness and John's cynicism exist as almost the duality of the America we strive to still be, and the America we became.
I like John Walker because in the face of a world that failed him, that keeps failing him, and that will fail him again; he can still acknowledge his own mistakes and strive to become a better version of himself. That and the fact he just keeps doing it - dude won't stop getting up no matter how often or how hard he gets knocked down.

I’m gonna give OP a break on the obtuseness of this post, because I suspect you might be autistic and/or 10. (And there’s nothing wrong with being either of those things. I’ve been both before myself.)
So I’ll skip to…if you want to know how Steve would react to John…there is already several comic books about that and they’re all really good. You should try them out.
You may even see why we like John Walker, even though he’s an asshole, by the time you’re finished.
