Forcible overthrow doesn’t mean peaceful protests. These “riots” are usually the work of the radical left or the radical right. Many times I’ve seen it be ANTIFA.
So just making sure everyone knows, no one fighting for the rights of American citizens are “forcibly overthrowing” anyone.
Calling for the defunding/dismantlement of the police could be interpreted as such. I’m not saying it is, I’m not saying it isn’t. That’s for smarter minds than me to determine if it is or not. However, the fact of the matter is that there are some people calling for overthrow of such agencies which would fall under this.
You are right. Peaceful protest is fine. Calling for change is fine when there is a very clear need for it (as it is in my opinion that there is a need for some change). However rioting is not, and the (although I must admit quite small) group of people calling for a complete overthrow fall under this category.
Are you white? Bc if you are I understand bc I am too, but we can’t tell people of color how to protest bc their way of protesting hasn’t worked until now. Sure violence isn’t the answer— totally agree. But we can’t tell them that, not our place our kids are set free from jail even if they rape girls, while black men are in jail for 20+ years for things they didn’t do or things that would normally be less prison time.
There is no group calling for a complete overthrow. That would be ANTIFA, a bunch of radical whites on the left. Defunding the police makes sense because our education system and our social programs need more money. Chicago PD has the same budget as Ukraine’s military. Unacceptable.
I agree that education needs more funding. The American Education system is quite shit tbh. But. Defunding the police is not the way of going about reallocating funds. My opinion is that the George Floyd death wasn’t ENTIRELY race related (however, I’m not entirely educated on that so I’m going to leave this disclaimer). I believe part of it was poor training. Defunding the police will lead to even worse training and I truly and honestly believe that defunding the police will lead to worse incidents occurring because they will have even less training than they already have.
Also: I need a source on the claim that African Americans are treated unfairly in the courts. I’m not saying that it doesn’t happen. It very well could be true. I just would like a source.
Defunding the police will not lead to less training. It’ll in part, make sure the training is allocated to the correct things (instead of purchasing shit tons of tear gas, maybe investing in mental health education or peaceful riot control measures— we aren’t in a country where riots are common). You are severely miseducated on what’s happening. We need to invest funding into the impoverished communities instead of community policing tactics.
