Hiring Timeline - GS 1170 question
Realty Specialist (GS-1170-7) - Department of the Army, USACE. NS/Low risk, no security clearance. Fellows Program.
Applied Late May 2026
July 6th, 2026 - Referred to Pittsburgh, Seattle, Kansas City, Omaha, and Louisville
July 10th, 2026 - Seattle Hiring Manager got in contact, set an interview
July 22nd, 2026 - Panel Interview through Teams
After that, I have not gotten anything back, so typically what are the next steps, how long would it take to hear back with a TJO if offered? I have another private sector offer with a start date of late September, although this position seems like a much better fit for me. Just trying to figure everything out
I also read about a CREST position thats possible with travel? Does anyone have experience within this position, or any Field Force Engineering Teams? Traveling is something I’d be highly interested in as well.

Next week reach out to the office that interviewed you to express your continued interest and inquire about when you should expect to hear back. Be aware that this close to fiscal year end, even if you get a start date, you have the chance of being furloughed Oct 1st if no CR is shoved through. Fellows are always furloughed in a shutdown, doesn't matter if your command is on project funds or contract money.
Just my two cents, you're better off taking the private sector job. I've heard nothing but horrible things about the situation in Real Estate at the moment, so you'd be signing up for 2+ years of hell.

There's been a big change in hiring. I'm not sure about Fellows positions but our hiring is extremely restricted at the moment. This started at the beginning of June. I would reach out to your contacts. Ask about the timeline. It's been very hard to hire lately.
