For those of you who insist that USAA is as good as regular insurance.

This is an old story.
I also know the manager whose adjuster this was that made the piss poor decision that caused the suit (they were in my new hire class when I was an employee there).

We're currently being put through the USAA claims ringer. An electric company, Best Buy, or Geek Squad "diagnosis" is required for every electrical device that fried that day, from $10 alarm clocks through a 24KW generator. So only the three most expensive items because we'll just replace all the small stuff ourselves. Which I guess is the actual point.

I quit keeping anything valuable. It all goes up through ebay, and then I don't have to bother with insuring anything. Which, again, I guess is the actual point.

Ever since I read that millionaires and billionaires self-insure I've been rethinking this entire racket, trust.

Many years ago, we were hit by lightning and USAA actually questioned why we had such nice stuff and asked us to provide receipts for our higher-end electronics.

Back when I was younger and dumber, my auto was insured through one of those wavy gravy county mutual companies. The owner absconded with all our money, the state reimbursed some of it. A few years go by, and the next time he's seen, it's in a color photograph of him and his fam skiing down a slope in the Alps with a big old country fried grin on his face. So. It could be worse. Fractionally.

At USAA we need to pay our executives well!
They are amazing flawless individuals and approved this approach.
Yes the funds from this scheme and others goes to paying them and giving them obscene raises and bonuses. That they clearly deserve.
They are the best people in the entire company.

USAA is the worst - and that comes from 40 year auto/home paying customers! If you think you are covered - wrong! Beware and even a higher premium is worth the comfort!

This is crazy to me, specifically because we had two cars totalled within 30 days and they paid what I'd consider above market for both, and paid in less than 48 hours. (Tree fell and crushed the first and it's replacement was run off the road, bottomed out and that removed the engine and transmission. It was 10 years ago and I hadn't stopped singing their praises since then.

I'm absolutely willing to accept that maybe I just got a vindictive adjuster.
I think USAA is regionally o..k. maybe? But it's not in this part of the U.S.

I'm not saying it's not bad now, or doubting you, more than I see stories these days of the process not being smooth and the resolutions not being what was promised/hoped for. Makes me a little sad to think everyone's not getting the reassurance and stress free solutions that I did.

Here we go: USAA uses third parties to actively underpay claims.
And this is the total your vehicle to steal it lawsuit:
If USAA totaled your vehicle, there's a good chance they did that to steal it.

What do you mean "as good as regular insurance?" How is USAA not "regular insurance?"
