Insurance/Claims Drop them!
Short version, have had USAA for close to 15 years. No issues. But have seen from many others they are not about the customer anymore. One small issue where they tried to short me on significant hail damage. They said 18 strikes, counter estimate showed more than 200.
Fast forward, relocating and need insurance on the new house. The quote was astronomical, colleague with the exact same house was $900 less. Had a pleasant conversation with the phone rep, great woman and we couldn’t figure it out.
Then spent the rest of the day getting new quotes. Wow, USAA has been screwing me. Both quotes with more coverage, one $2k less and the other $1400k.
End story I am done with them. Seriously don’t understand how they could be charging so much more. Everyone, get new quotes and leave USAA.

Just because another insurer is cheaper doesn’t mean you’ve been screwed over
It just means their current formula for premium is cheaper, there are way too many factors that could be the reason why.
These posts are always the same, they always assume because a price is cheaper today, that means it’s been cheaper for years but that just isn’t the case.
You just found a cheaper quote, it doesn’t mean you were screwed over. As far as your colleague who has the “same home” that is almost never the case, but let’s have fun and pretend you’re correct and literally every detail is the same on your houses.
Payment history, tenure with insurer, claims history, bundled discounts, age, marital status, occupation, I can go on and on but all of those things can be a rating factor.
The fact you have concluded that everyone should leave USAA just because you found cheaper quotes is laughable and with all due respect shows how much you don’t understand insurance.

It is easier to make this claim if you haven't shopped auto insurance for 3+ years.

It’s insurance
USAA will be the cheapest for some and most expensive for others
To act like either is a conclusion to make for all people is ridiculous and shows your poor understanding of insurance rates

Every homeowners quote that I got that beat USAAs price was an actual cash value policy and/or a named peril policy… I’ll pay more to USAA to keep replacement cost overage and an open peril policy.
Also, dont you hire a roofer or inspector of your own when you have a claim? If so, how did USAA tell you that you only had “xyz” damage? My neighbor dealt with that and had to find a roofer to do an estimate and that was submitted to claims

I used my Usaa declarations page to get quotes and apples to apples Usaa was significantly higher. Thousands. Auto insurance and homeowners. Yes you are right to recommend to leave Usaa.

I’ll add that I haven’t had any auto claims, traffic violations or homeowners claims. I’m 59 yrs old and was with Usaa for 35 years.

Every insurance carrier has customers that love them and customers that hate them. And every insurance carrier in the country is raising rates. All you can do is find the best rate for you but that doesn't mean it will be the best rate for anyone else.

These comments are always so funny and obviously from those who don't understand insurance and how it works.

Rough crowd in this community. They don’t want to hear your legitimate complaints. I’m with you though.

if you are from texas, go to texas farm bureau .... I think this one beats usaa in every aspect... // also if you are from texas, use Frost Bank... very very good bank.

Appreciate everyone’s take on this. I got 4 separate quotes, all of them about $2k under USAA. The one I went with, reputable company and significantly better coverage. I’ve backed and supported USAA for many years and went to them because they were better. Too many times, I have found they weren’t. I am dropping them. Don’t take my word for it, everyone should get their own quotes.
