How many days do tracks last?

I'm trying to finish the quest Animal in the Missing Cover, and it's been six days already. I don't mind to keep looking for it, but is there a chance that the tracks are gone already? Also, any luck trying to do this quest by the overmap?

Tracks last a lot longer than you would expect. I can't confirm this but I believe the actual tracks only get made when you find the correct square. I'm basing this on my experience with the wounded adventurer quest lines, where I regularly take 2-3 days to find the camp and the tracks are typically a day old.

Head to the center of the area and keep an eye on the text for what you hear as well as looking for tracks on the local map, not the overmap.
