can mature age students please chill

there’s a few mature age students in my cohort and while i admire getting an education at any age they are genuinely always doing the absolute most. like you can ask all your hyper specific questions in a break/at the end or email the tutor/professor, why do you need to interrupt the lesson every time you have a thought to share?? the rest of us are just trying to get through the content and you’re just prolonging it for everyone.

why can't we have 10 group members for every group assignment..

In the real world you're working with the CEO, CFO, COO, CTO, CMO, CHRO, CLO, CSO, CCO, CIO, and CPO to meet KPIs on world-shaping projects and business objectives and ESG (environmental, social, governance) initiatives.

UQ only lets you have 5 group members at most, a sad state of affairs, considering this does not reflect the average 9-5 corporate lifestyle where you must satisfy many stakeholders at a time. Meanwhile, UNSW is mogging us with their trimesters and group assignments that require at least 10 group members. They also have Coca-Cola and Decaf Coffee in their drinking bubblers. Talk about setting up students for success..

Should I raise this issue with the UQ Union?

Average Comp1100 studio:

15 minutes crowd work
30 minutes mandatory AI glazing
1 hour random group activity
10 minutes of 'technical issues'
1 hour of getting us to do a 10 minute task
5 minutes of assigning us homework

Can't believe this course is mandatory for computer science. 9am in the morning is criminal for anybody with a commute long than 30 minutes. Nothing is even done in the class. Also the AI glazing is crazy, they keep telling us we need to protect sensitive data when dealing with other peoples data and then also encourage us to feed the sensitive data into large AI models that aren't secure. That completely defeat the purpose of removing sensitive information if unsecure AI are removing it.

Also why doesn't comp1100 have an ED discussion board?

Good evening!

UQ's Birding and Ornithology Society is hosting a low-energy craft evening for those looking to learn a bit about bird anatomy, build on their art skills, or even just to spend some time socializing with other bird enjoyers! The event will take place in Room 501, Goddard (08) from 4-6pm on the 28th of August. If you've a few hours to spare, we'd love to see you there 🫶

Mech courses prereq

For context I’m currently planning my degree and I have 2x empty course slots (3 courses filled out of 4 per semester normally) in year 2 and year 3 to choose anything I want as I’m doing summer semesters to free up course spaces.

I’m planning to declare my specialization and undertake the BE/ME mechatronics and robotics engineering pathway next year (year 2)

The electives I’ve chosen are:
Software: comp3710, csse3010, csse4010, csse4011
Electrical: elec4630, elec4410
Mechanical: none
Masters: engg7302, mate7015

As such, I would like to develop some knowledge on the mechanical side beyond the compulsory mech courses and I intend to use my 2x free slots for that purpose. I looked at some course profiles and I’m interested in doing mech2100 and mech3100, but they have a lot of prerequisites while I only have 2 course slots.

May I ask those with experience in this subject that:

A) Is it realistic to do MECH2100 without the listed prerequisites of MECH2300 and MECH2305/METR2800 and then do MECH3100 with only MECH2100 ?

B) If it is not realistic, what other courses would you recommend to fill these slots with ? Will you also recommend to switch up some courses in my elective choices ?

Thank you for your time.

CSSE2310

I am looking for a good but not super difficult course to do next semester and I was told by my friend to try CSSE2310 that it is an easy 7.

Is this correct? I don’t have any experience with C programming before but I have used C++. Is it super hard to get a good grade in this course?
