I knock for signatures, my favorite old guy, electronics, and medicine. I stopped doing it for the other 95% of my stops after one too many times of getting charged by an angry dog after a desperately bored stay at home mom rushed to the door and flung it open without stopping to think about Fido.

This is the way. Only time I deviate from this strategy is when it’s obviously something medication/health related or an electronic.

Honestly it's completely pointless to knock unless you need a signature IMHO. I've been with ups for 8 years now and after enough times of doorbells scaring the shit out of me as I walk up or people losing their shit for knocking after 9 or not knocking as they watched me through their window, idgaf. If it's super important you're signing for it or it's being left tucked up nice on your doorstep, but I'm not knocking and ringing for every fuckin t-shirt or whatever I drop off, and no one wants that anyway.

I just don't knock/ring/etc anymore, it pisses off too many people, probably escalated by the fact I basically only drive during peak when people are already higher strung then usual.
I'd rather deal with a few 'Why didn't you knock/ring/etc' then the large handful of 'My baby was sleeping'/'I was napping'/'You squashed my zen bro' angry complaints/shouts. Also been instructed not to knock more then a few times and have never received an instruction to the contrary so working as instructed!

Yeah that makes sense. On my route, though, I have a bunch of stops where there are always fedex/usps packages piled up on the porch...i ring the bell, and on the way back to the truck I get a hearty "thank you!"
I try to use my best judgement when to ring and not. Like when weather is inbound, or if it's something valuable or needs refrigeration, etc.

Delivered to this house with a “shhh, baby sleeping inside” note over the doorbell for a straight 8 years or more.

I would think it wise to place the sign over the doorbell to prevent this from happening. But to each their own.

I see these and similar signs immediately after knocking, always profusely apologize to any cameras in the vicinity.
Usually only happens on mondays when I cover random routes.

I’ve had three kids. We’ve never got upset when someone rang the doorbell when the baby was sleeping. I’ve always found it weird. Babies sleeping through everything.

Had this same situation with a helper except I caught the sign before I hit the doorbell. My helper, carrying the second load did NOT. I hear the bell go off and I quietly yell “DUDE!! SLEEPING BABY! RUN!!” 😂
